  • 1.  Chat session is gone after moving across pages

    Posted 04-25-2018 16:41
    Hey team,

Has somebody worked with the Genesys Widget chat?
If yes, How did you configure it to keep the session alive when moving across the website pages?

I'm having an issue with this, the chat session is gone after a refresh or moving to the next page.

What I'm doing is copy/paste the generated script in the Genesys Widgets Sample Page to the next page so it could have the same configuration.

    Regards.

The best approach that I'm aware of where you have to keep a chat going during page navigations/reloads is to pop the chat widget into its own browser window.

There may be a way for the widgets to resume an existing chat session, but I'll have to check on that and get back to you.

I've had a discussion with the developer of the Chat Widgets and I'm told that if you launch the chat widget after navigating to a new page or reloading the current page, the widgets should check its cookies and reload a currently active chat.  Are you testing from localhost or from a live, public domain?  That may make a difference as to how cookies are stored and accessed.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the response, yes I'm testing from a localhost :

    http://localhost/chattest/Sales.html

    http://localhost/chattest/Service.html

I get the chat button in the sales page, I created the chat session, after moving to the Service page I get the chat button again but the chat session is gone, however, I can see it in the other end (WDE).

Please take a look at the following screenshot, I can see that the cookies are empty, but on the left side, it states that there are two in use.

    Are cookies working?

    Hi,

I am also having same issue. We have a page before chat control. We have customized IWT for our needs.

While going through document it has reconnect option too. But the webservice.js don't have the same implementation.

We have chatID and participantID in cookies while moving from page to page (We added it ourselves).

Any immediate help in this matter is highly appreciated.

    Hi Alok

Chat widgets use GMS V2 protocol. Suggest you check the sample application and see if events are proper.

Looks like some issue with the configuration.

    Ummm........

No issue with the events, its checked, its JS error as it is not able to reconnect or read cookies automatically.

Any sample which depicts multi page movement will help.

I have tested quite a few examples of IWT and when we click reload or refresh page chat gets lost.

I have tested the original chat program too.

Refresh on same page makes chat session to go off and need to start over again.

    Alok,

Are you still having this problem? If so, are you using the Fully Qualified Domain Name in your web address? Aldo and I were having this problem and found that it would work with Firefox, but not with Chrome or IE. No code needed to be changed on the website. All we had to do to make it work in Chrome and IE was use the Fully Qualified Domain Name instead of just the server name in the URL. Let us know if you experience the same and if resolution works for you.

    Hi,

    I just tested with firefox.

It did not worked. I went to the demo provided by your team went to i3Root/indx.html, steps I took:
    1. I don't have account.
    2. Give name Alok
    3. Email transcript yes
    4. Given email address.
    5. Started chat and gave one message as test.
    6. Refreshed the page and test session gone and I am back at start wizard.

    Your other queries:
    1. Yes we are using fully qualified name but it is not currently open for public.
    2. I am making arrangement to open in our firewall.
    3. Currently I am testing it via logmein to the machine and run it there.

Once I have it open in public domain I will let you know how that goes.

On other note please provide me steps how to test in Firefox correctly?
Where I can download any update or latest codes? I want to restart from scratch.

    Regards
