  • 1.  Shared softphone

    Greetings,

    Our client's Contact Center users work in shifts so multiple users will share the same softphone. We realized that the softphone settings are stored somewhere in the OS user folder. Given this the softphone has to be provisioned at least one time for each user that uses a given workstation. The contact center users don't have fixed workstations. Is there a way have the softphone configured by machine?

    I'm not sure what you are asking...the only way the PureCloud Softphone can be configured is by the workstation name.

    Hello George.

    Correct, but that is no the issue.

    Picture this: I'm user X and I install the softphone on workstation A. If a new user, let's say Y, logs into workstation A the sofphone is already installed but not provisioned because the provisioning configuration is under user A folder at Windows. In a call center with 4 shifts of 40 users that never stick to the same workstation we will have to provisioning 40 workstations for 160 users :s

    Is there a way to overcome this?

    DHCP Option 160 should be used to point the Softphones to the correct DNS Host A record for provisioning.

    Hello George.

    Thank u for ur feedback. If automatic provision is selected new users that log in a workstation would be automatically provisioned? Meaning no user interaction would be needed on the softphone?

    Yes, when the Softphone starts it looks for Option 160 and provisions automatically. 

    If you happen to have Polycom phones running on your network they should do the same.
