  • 1.  Media Ports to open - PureCloud

    Hello,

    Below, it is said that the default ranges ports can be changed in the PureCloud configuration.

    How would it be done ? Can we change or optimize that range ?




    Why in the other way Softphone to Edge media stream, we have not the same port ranges ? (16384-32768 and not 4000+)

    We're facing the same needs :
    We asked to Genesys PS to get an answer, and still waiting for now.

    Did you get one from another channel ?

    I will steal wording from one of the SIP forums out on the internet:

    "The RTP media traffic (the actual audio stream) uses a range of udp ports that varies greatly from PBX to PBX and is usually configurable. A typical range might be 10000-20000. However, you will only need to utilize a range that is large enough to support the number of simultaneous udp ports you plan to have." (emphasis mine)

    The ports listed in the Resource Center are those the developers for PureCloud have chosen to use. If you change the ports, it should be fine since the ports are negotiated during call setup and teardown (via the SIP signalling). 

    Keep in mind that for the Softphone (as per the Resource Center) "The valid range is 1024–65,535." However, you need to choose a range that will not conflict with any other ports in use by other software in use on the computers running the Softphone.

    Thank you @George Ganahl for your answer.

    In the Base settings, we can change the value of RTP Audio Port Start Range (default value : 16384)

    If I change this start range Value into 65525 (65535 - 10),  that would mean that there will remain only 10 ports to open for VoIP phone ?
    would there be an impact on the service ?

    I don't know what that would do to service.

    I have never heard of anyone limiting the ports to such a small range.
