  • 1.  Exchange 2007 and IC 2.4

    Posted 06-16-2008 22:12
We are beginning the research to upgrade to Exchange 2007. Both myself and my network administrator have been looking for documentation but all we can find is Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unified Messaging PBX Configuration Note: from I3. Does anyone know of anyother documentation or even better user cases. How did it go, what to watch out for, etc. I can't seem to find any information on this very BIG upgrade.

Are you asking from the standpoint of integrating to Exchange as a message store (like you might already being doing with earlier versions of Exchange), or as a unified messaging server (new feature in Exchange 2007)?

If you are looking to use Exchange 2007 as a message store the testlab website shows it as a supported mail platform. The IC install guide should show how to properly configure IC for Exchange 2007.

We are upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. We will continue using I3 for Unified message. My main question is has someone out there made the jump to Exchange 2007 and if so, how did it go? Any problems, etc. We can't find much documentation for I3 and Exchange 2007 so it makes us a little nervous. In addition, we need to upgrade our Exchange Cals to the Enterprise version, very costly.

We upgraded from 2003 to 2007, at the time our CIC server was in, but not in use.. nothing broke if that helps at all, and it's all currently working well

I am not aware of any issues with the integration between CIC and Exchange 2007, this has been tested and certified as a supported configuration for CIC 2.4 and CIC 3.0. The only notable difference is how permissions are assigned, with Exchange 2003 the Exchange System Manager is used, with Exchange 2007 the Exchange Management Shell is used. We have a KB article which describes this.

I read that article and it seems very simple. I was more concerned when I read the "Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unified Messaging PBX Configuration Note:Direct SIP Connection with Interactive Intelligence Customer" article. While we have an HMP server, we are using gateways to connect to our analog stations and our T1 lines. Some things in the article made us wary.

In Exchange 2007, Microsoft introduced a unified messaging feature, which basically allows the Exchange server to make and receive calls using an IP-PBX. The PBX Configuration Note to which you are referring describes how CIC can be configured as the IP-PBX in that configuration. If you're just upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007, and not using the unified messaging in Exchange 2007, then you don't need to worry about this.
