Java issues with WFM

    Hi Guys,

We are having some problems with getting java to load properly on a jump server for a new customer in WFM Web.

I have tried almost everything , installing and uninstalling java a million times. Changing security settings , activex settings . Installing both 64 bit and 32 bit versions. I am out of ideas. The only thing i have not done is restart the server.

Currently i have the following Java installed.

    Java SRE 8.151 x86
    Java SRE 8.151 64bit
    Java SDK 8.151 64 bit

And when i click on Adherence tab , for example which uses Java , it gets stuck for some time then throws the error:

"WFM cannot detect the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Some modules might not work. Check to ensure JRE is installed and supported by your browser."

However i get a prompt at the bottom that says : " This webpage wants to run the following add-on : ' Java SE RunTime Environemnt 8 Update 151 from Oracle America INC.

When I click on "Allow"  it takes me back to the home page of WFM Web.

Not sure what else i need to try to get this fixed . Will the WFM web logs help to find what the issues is ?

    Will appreciate any tips :)

    Hi Janesh,

I assume you're using Internet Explorer as the browser.
If you open the Java Control Panel applet and click on the Advanced tab, is Internet Explorer ticked under Default Java for browsers?

    Hi Janesh,

The next thing to consider is whether the WFM Server is part of the Local Intranet or has been added as a Trusted Site (on the Security tab of Internet Options) on the jump host?

Also, is that jump host able to access the internet to validate certificates?
I just tested this and confirmed that the "WFM cannot detect the Java Runtime Environment..." message comes up almost immediately when the JRE is not installed.  But we had a similar issue a while ago where the JRE was not able to access the internet to validate the certificate, so it was failing to load (and/or taking a long time to load).

    Regards,

    Bevan

    Hi Janesh,

The other thing to check is whether you have any popup blockers active.
When WFM first loads the JRE, it pops a dialog asking you to allow the applet - so maybe that's being blocked?

    Bevan

    Thanks a lot Bevan.

The Jump host is not open to internet.
Once I added the website to the Trusted site on Security tabs its not getting the error :"WFM cannot detect the Java Runtime Environment..." anymore.

However got a remote call error. I suspect this could be certificate issue that needs to be loaded in Java Keystore. I am looking into this now.
Thanks a lot for your help!. Let me know if you got those remote call errors as well , and if you had , how you fixed them?

    Regards
    Janesh

    Hi Janesh,

We don't get those remote call errors, but we had to add the WFM certificates as well as the intermediate certificates into the keystore - try that and see how it goes.

I agree with Bevan.  Usually when I've seen that remote call error it either needed a Tomcat restart, but more than often was a case of needing the cert(s) added.  Make sure to take a backup of the current keystore in case JRE on that machine is used for other things and something goes wrong.

It's also worth turning off the Java auto updater as well and making sure your system admins don't force java updates.  That can end up overwriting the keystore as well.

    Thank Everyone for your help.

So the main issues were fixed by doing the following:

    • Add the URL to trusted websites
    • Certificates provided were not correct
    • After correct certificates provided , added to Java Keystore and WFM Web is working now

    Hello,

I am having the same issue, but where did you got "the correct certificates provided , added to Java Keystore"?

Could you please help and advise.

    Hi,
We faced the very same JRE issue. This thread helped me, here is what I did exactly to make it work: at affected users workstation, install Java, go to its config and in Security tab, there is Exception Site List. There, add URL to your WFM. E.g., ours is like: http://123.456.789:9999/wfm/
Then in your IE go to the page you encounter the Java issue, it starts loading, takes time, allow all exceptions for your site, should work.
