Genesys has updated the Edge release notes with this information:
They have stopped the edge auto-update for all the customers, and the new Edge firmware will be announced in January. Also, the latest Edge firmware code (v1.0.0.8670) prevents the PureCloud Softphone update by sending a "NO" message to all the update requests (By design, when the computer is turned on the Softphone check if a new version is available).

Open a ticket with Support to see if you can freeze any changes to your ORG. I don't know if they still offer this, but the policy is that everyone is on the same version with the Continuous Delivery model. I agree I would not want to have to come in on over that holiday weekend to deal with issues caused by any updates, but rest assured, that Genesys does everything possible to test and vet each update and history has proven that this testing has rarely resulted in code that has broken key functionality.

I am very concerned about these changes during the Christmas Holidays.
I was told there is a new Softphone version and Edge firmware coming and don't know what else will be changing:
- New Softphone version - Dec 26th
- New Edge firmware - Dec 27th
I hope these changes don't cause any impact on the platform.

I have not heard or seen any such announcement. In 2017 and 2018, they released on 12/26 and the week before and after.
