You could always use Remote Number. That could be a cellphone, Zoom, Teams, DID number on a PBX, etc...

Also, the Softphone is only compatible with BYOC Premise w/ Edges. You cannot use it with cloud media (Genesys Cloud Voice or BYOC Cloud).

The main difference with the PureCloud Softphone is that it connects directly to the Edge over the LAN (presuming you edge is on-premises in the same location as the computer running the softphone). The WebRTC phoen communicates with the edge across the internet. So, call quality for WebRTC is dependent on your ISP and the reliability of your internet connection.
If you lose the internet connection, the PureCloud softphone can still function while connected to the edge across the LAN or WAN. The WebRTC phone cannot function if the internet connection fails.

In Phone Management section, we can list all the preferred audio codec in the Media configuration for the softphone.
We can make Opus at the top list.
So maybe in term of audio quality, they have the same codecs.

I haven't used the Softphone much, as WebRTC is so easy to setup and comes in as default with modern browsers.
From an audio quality perspective the Codec will have an important part, you should aim for the OPUS codec, which incidentally is the default on WebRTC, and will provide optimum audio (https://www.opus-codec.org/comparison/) between users and Edge.
