  • 1.  BYOC Cloud: lessons learned with multiple carriers

    Posted 6 days ago

For those running BYOC Cloud with more than one carrier, what lessons did you learn? Things like trunk configuration, failover between carriers, codec choices, or monitoring call quality. Any recommendations for a team in Brazil?

    Hi Vinicius,

We don't run a multi-carrier BYOC Cloud deployment ourselves, but a few lessons learned from BYOC and SIP trunk deployments stand out:

    • Build resilience into the carrier design from day one. Several of our designs use dual-resilient SIP trunks, redundant SBCs, and multiple SIP proxies to support failover scenarios.

    • Standardise codecs across the environment. In one of our Genesys Cloud BYOC designs, G.711 was selected specifically to optimise voice quality, with QoS delivered across the network.

    • Ensure SBCs are part of the design. SBCs provide security, SIP normalisation, media handling, and interoperability between carriers and cloud platforms.

    • Validate carrier failover regularly. We have documented SIP trunk failover scenarios and trunk resiliency designs rather than relying on failover only during an outage.

    • Invest in monitoring. Monitoring platforms that capture CDRs, SIP ladder traces, trunk health, and call quality statistics have proven valuable when troubleshooting carrier-specific issues.

    • Keep SIP configuration aligned across providers, including TLS/SRTP, SIP routing, and codec support. Some of our BYOC onboarding documentation specifically captures codec requirements and secure SIP connectivity as part of the design process

I'd recommend paying particular attention to carrier interoperability testing, codec alignment, failover validation, and ongoing quality monitoring before moving production traffic.
