The first College Football Playoff was full of surprises. Not a single upset in the first round of play and pretty much all upsets from there on. Who would have guessed? Turns out nobody in our bracket group.
In terms of our picks, Oregon was the overall favorite with Georgia shortly behind them, but both teams failed to make it passed their first round of championship play. A few inspired members picked Penn State and Texas who made it to the Semis, but ultimately lost out to Notre Dame and OSU. So it looks like our points board is frozen and all players have been eliminated!
Honestly, this is why I have always loved college football and wanted a larger championship playoff. This first year proves that there are a lot of talented teams with 1 or 2 loses who just need their chance to win one for the Gipper and take home an extra big trophy.
With all of our brackets dead in the water, it looks like @Patrick Falco is our winner! Patrick, if your win holds up after next Monday (when the championship game happens), a member of the community team will be in touch. Cheers!

The lead up to last night's game of Penn State vs Notre Damn (4th and 5th seeds respectively) was best described in the pregame as, "It's going to be a slobber knocker." And man! It was. Notre Dame overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half to tie and eventually win the game after an interception with 30 seconds left of the clock. Even the strength of two high-dose sleeping pills couldn't keep me from finishing it.
That being said, with Penn State down and only two games left in the tournament, there are only TWO (2) members left whose brackets have champions still in play. @Larissa Huffman and "Ash Sha" is that you @Ashiesh Sharma? You both have Texas still on the board. And you may be in 17th and 27th place currently, but that could change with some key Texas wins.
Our current first-place bracket by @Patrick Falco, has reached max points, but they did pick Notre Dame to go to the finals, and they get a tip of my hat or helmet for that.
Good luck, everyone! Just a reminder that we will be back with Super Bowl prop bets in a couple of weeks from now.
Cheers,

Alright everyone,
Who wants to play in the First College Football Playoff Bracket Contest??
I know that @Amy Sessions and @Seean Weaver expressed interest in a College Football Playoff bracket, so I have been trying to find a good option. For now, it looks like ESPN is our only safe alternative, sorry you have to create an account, but I hope you can forgive me and have some fun.
Yes, there will be a Prize Wall prize for the overall winner. Playoff games start next Friday (Dec 20th), so get your picks in ASAP.
Where to Register:
Password: PrizeWall
For now, the main details are (subject to change):
- Only one bracket per member
- Must be an active community member to win
- If we get 50 brackets, we will give a prize to whomever comes in dead last
- If the University of Tennessee wins, Matt Lawson automatically wins (joking, but go VOLS!)
Hope everyone has fun, enjoys the games, holidays, family, friends, and of course some delicious food. Oh...and the community, naturally.
Cheers,
Matt
