  • 1.  Directory > User > Delete permission

    Posted 09-08-2026 08:31

    Hi Team,

Could someone please clarify the difference between these two permissions?

    Directory > User > Delete
    Directory > User > Edit

We have observed that even when Directory > User > Delete is not enabled, users are still able to delete other users when Directory > User > Edit is enabled.

Could you please confirm whether this is the expected behavior and explain how these two permissions are intended to work?

    thank you

    Hi Narasimha,

From what I can see, setting a user's status to deleted can be performed with Directory > User > Edit (or Directory > User > All), which may explain the behaviour you're seeing.

However, I couldn't find clear documentation explaining the specific purpose of Directory > User > Delete or how it differs from Edit in this scenario.

So I think the question is still valid - if Edit allows the user's status to be changed to deleted, what exactly is Directory > User > Delete intended to control?

It would be great if someone from Genesys could clarify the intended behaviour of these two permissions.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello Narasimha,

I looked through the documentation and saw the General > Admin permission, so I assumed that was the one. However, I tested it by removing that role and the Delete permission, leaving only Edit, and I was still able to delete a user.

I believe the best approach would be for someone from Genesys to confirm whether this is the expected behavior.

If this is indeed the expected behavior, it is something we should pay attention to, since there are planning users who may need to edit things within the organization but should not have permission to delete users.

    Hello Narasimha,

As of right now, the Edit permission also includes the ability to delete users. I did see this idea in the Product Ideas Lab that is currently marked as Under Consideration as of last month. I would highly recommend voting and commenting on that idea if you would like to see this functionality changed in the future.

Thanks, everyone, for your valuable insights, so It appears that the Edit permission also grants the ability to delete users. As a result, we cannot provide teams with edit access without also granting delete access.

    i have voted the idea
