Games as kids to pass time

  • 1.  Games as kids to pass time

    Recent movie reminded me of a game we'd play called "drawing battles" where two face off with their drawings often on the same sheet of paper in a real-time combat game. The winner being the artwork in the end. There was also "SOS", the grid style game where players took turns writing either the S or the O to spell SOS as many times as possible. Interested to learn of others that were played.

    I used to play STOP a lot when I was a kid!

    It is a popular word game in Brazil.

    We would create a table with different categories, such as Name, Fruit, Color, Car, etc. Then, we would randomly choose a letter, and everyone had to fill in all the categories with words starting with that letter.

    The first person to finish would shout "STOP!", and everyone had to stop writing. A different letter was chosen for each round.

    Each category was worth 10 points. If two or more players had the same answer, it was worth only 5 points. We would add up the points from each category and, at the end, the player with the highest total score won.

    Even as an adult, I can't say no if someone invites me to play STOP hahaha.

    This brings back memories! 😄 I used to spend hours playing games on one of these as a kid, especially Mario. 🎮🍄

    Definitely one of my favourite ways to pass the time back then!

    wawwww , @TIMOTHY CONNOR  really managed to take me back to my childhood with that question.

    I agree with @Camila Meneghinifrom STOP, I also experienced the video games of @Phaneendra Avatapalli´s including Super Nintendo, Atari, and Sega. But then I remembered some cards called "Super Trumpf" that were legendary, with planes, cars, trucks, ships, and other things, where each vehicle had a score and the goal was to win by scoring points against other players' cards, Perhaps someone knows them, so I'm leaving a photo here.

    @Cesar Padilla

    😂 This brought back another memory for me! We also used to have WWE/Wrestling cards like these, comparing the wrestlers' stats to see who would win.

    I remember spending hours playing with these as a kid. 😄 Definitely another one to add to the childhood games list!

    hi @Phaneendra Avatapalli, you reminded me of those playing cards, hahaha. Yes, I played with them too, and it reminded me of a couple of other games here in Colombia: "Yermis, Cuca Patada, Burro." In other words, it took me back to my life many years ago.

    I'll admit, parts of me never left and it's why we should incorporate some form of fun into our days. Share a smile, be the root cause of another, it even gets the creativity pumping!

    hi Phaneendra,

    I totally agree with what you're saying. Here in Colombia, I'd apply three phrases: first, "we were happy and we didn't know it," second, "the past was always better," and third, "to remember is to live." Having said that, we literally had no worries, debt, jobs, obligations-all that was our parents' responsibility, hahaha.
