That's a fair observation Paul, and I agree that the certification path has become more streamlined over time. However, there are a few factors worth considering:
-
In the past, the API certification exam served as a prerequisite for many candidates pursuing the Developer certification. While it added depth and validated a solid understanding of APIs, it also created an additional hurdle that could prevent otherwise capable candidates from obtaining the Developer certification.
-
Genesys has continued to introduce new certifications and update existing learning paths to align with evolving product capabilities and job roles. As a result, comparing today's certifications directly with older versions is not always an apples-to-apples comparison.
-
I also wouldn't necessarily expect certification updates to result in only minor changes. There have been cases where Genesys significantly restructured certification content and requirements. The WEM/WFM certification changes are a good example of how exam scope, focus areas, and certification tracks can evolve as the product matures.
So while some certification paths may appear easier today because they involve fewer exams, part of that simplification may reflect redesigned certification journeys, updated role expectations, and the addition of more specialized certifications rather than a simple reduction in difficulty.
Thanks,

On a positive note, the Genesys Cloud certifications appear to have become easier to complete. I don't think this is solely due to my increased exposure to the product over time. For example, the GCP certification previously required three separate exams and covered a much broader range of content in greater detail. Today, it has been consolidated into a single exam with less content and less depth overall.
While the required pass mark has increased slightly, the change is relatively minor. The number of exam questions also seems to have remained fairly consistent at around 50 to 60 questions. Overall, the certification path feels more streamlined and accessible than it was in the past.

Good catch Paul,
Another consideration is that certification programs can evolve over time. If a certification has been expired for an extended period, it's worth confirming whether there have been changes to exam objectives, recommended training, prerequisites, or certification tracks. Reviewing the current certification requirements before registering can help avoid surprises and ensure you're preparing for the most up-to-date version of the exam.
In addition, it's a good idea to keep a copy of your certification records and verify that your certifications are correctly reflected in the relevant certification portals. This can help prevent any issues with partner compliance reporting or certification verification during the recertification process.
Thanks,

Additional:-
If you're a customer, completing the certification after it has expired is generally not a major issue, although you may have a period where your certification is no longer considered current. However, for Genesys partners, certification status can have a greater impact as partner programs often require a minimum number of certified pre-sales and post-sales resources to maintain compliance and partner standing.
As every situation can be different, particularly for partners with certification requirements, it's best to contact the Genesys Education and Certification Team directly. They can review your specific circumstances and provide guidance on recertification options, certification status, and any potential impact on partner compliance requirements.

Hi Marc,
My understanding is that you don't need to wait until the certification expires. If you're within a few months of expiry, you can usually recertify by taking the same exam again.
I'd recommend checking your Genesys Beyond and Webassessor accounts to see if the exam is already available for registration. If you're an Orchestrators member, you may also be able to redeem points for an exam voucher. Otherwise, you'll need to purchase a voucher or have an active subscription that includes certification benefits.
Genesys Cloud certifications are valid for two years, and recertification is generally completed by passing the same exam again before your current certification expires.
Also, keep in mind that passing the recertification exam typically extends your certification validity from the date of the new certification, so many people choose to recertify a few months before expiration rather than waiting until the last minute. It's also a good idea to verify the current exam version and any updated exam objectives, as Genesys occasionally refreshes certification content to align with new platform features.
If you have any questions about voucher eligibility or exam availability, the Genesys Certification team or the resources available through Beyond can usually provide the most up-to-date guidance.
Good luck with your recertification!
Thanks,
