You are correct that staffing groups are just used for time off plans. It gives you more granularity in time off allocation within a management unit. One of our use cases is that we have a subset of staff that work the graveyard shift. Without staff groups it meant that we couldn't allow auto approval of rec leave as all graveyard staff could apply for leave on the same day and be approved due to the overall management unit limits available. With staffing groups we are able to allocate the graveyard team their own limits without the risk of being understaffed.
For your architect team, there is no risk or negative impacts of giving your team the permissions so I'd say its worth asking for, even if you don't plan to immediately use it.

Subject: Staffing Groups Use Cases
Hi there,
I'm looking for more information on Staffing Groups. I know how to set them up/delete them, but I haven't found what I'm looking for in the Resource Center nor Genesys Beyond.
What are some use cases for Staffing Groups? What do you use it for? What CAN'T it do?
Before reaching out to our architect team to open up permissions to my team, I'd like to see if it's something my team would/could/should use.
Is this functionality only used for time off plans? Does it do anything in the Scheduler?
Thank you!
