What award would YOU give out?

  • 1.  What award would YOU give out?

    Posted 02-10-2025 12:33

We are in awards season and while I was enjoying reading all the nominees for the Academy Awards, I thought this would be a fun question to ask our creative community members:

There are a lot of awards given out, but what is the ONE award you wish you could give out? Who would get it and why?

Get creative! They don't have to be traditional awards, but please give us reasoning why we need this particular award of yours.

I'll go first! I have to admit, I was running a blank, so I turned to my super-creative 10-year-old son and asked him. He said:

The one award I wish I could give out is the "Best Gamer with one arm award!" You may be asking yourself "why one arm?" The context is he just broke his elbow and it has been challenging for him to play his favorite games. So he has a new appreciation! He said he'd give the award to himself, haha!

Now you go! If you post to this thread, an added extra is you'll get three (3) bonus points if you participate in the Oscars Ballot Contest happening in the Trivia Tower right now!

I can neither confirm nor deny that I have had this idea tucked away for a bit and am trying to figure out how to implement it...

🏆 The "MacGyver of Mirth" Award 🐔

    Overview:

Some heroes wear capes. Others wear mismatched socks, carry a notebook full of half-baked genius ideas, and can defuse an awkward silence with a well-timed joke. This award is for that person-the one who embraces chaos with creativity, turns misadventures into comedy gold, and has an uncanny ability to meet people exactly where they are (even if "where they are" is on their third coffee and still struggling with basic motor skills).

The MacGyver of Mirth Award recognizes a true innovator of levity and connection, someone who finds ways to solve problems with outside-the-box thinking, humor that doesn't punch down, and the rare gift of making people feel valued even when they're having a "brain buffering" kind of day.

    Criteria for Selection:

    • Creativity: Can craft brilliance from thin air (or office supplies). Has likely said, "We can fix this with tape" at least once this week.
    • Humor: Wields comedy as a tool for survival and productivity. Whether it's a witty quip, self-deprecating charm, or an ability to make even a budget meeting entertaining, they keep morale high.
    • Acceptance: Adapts to every person and situation with grace, humor, and an impressive ability to read the room (or at least acknowledge when they've misread it and backpedal with charm).

    Award Presentation:

The recipient will receive a highly prestigious, custom-designed trophy: a golden rubber chicken, mounted on a plaque (possibly engraved with something absurd yet inspiring). Because nothing says "You're a legend" quite like a poultry-based prize.

    Official Catchphrase:

"For services rendered in the field of making life less awkward."

    Engraved Quote on the Trophy:

"In the grand circus of life, you are both the tightrope walker and the safety net. Also, sometimes the clown-but in a deeply profound way."

If the winner does not immediately make a joke about "finally getting recognized for their cluckin' hard work," they will be asked to return the award.

An award for the worst film of the year award because lately, there are so many!  A lemon on a stand would do, carved from solid pine to save money since enough would have been already wasted!

In the pursuit of eliminating unnecessary film remakes or franchise reboots, I would like to award a mounted glass orb containing nothing but a vacuum and a blank plaque, to the most pointless film remake and/or franchise reboot.

We've all had it happen - you think of the best comeback, but not until minutes, hours, or even days later. It's far too late to deliver it, so it just hangs in the air, undelivered and unappreciated. No more! It's high time those belated rebuttals get the recognition they deserve. Presenting the "Take That!" awards. All applicants/nominees present their comebacks so they get the satisfaction of delivering them, and winners are selected for various categories - Sickest Burn, Best Delivery, Overall Best Comeback, Most Creative Word Choice, etc.

Award for doing more with less

It is an award for any field, and it goes to all those who do what seems impossible with little money, little staff and little time.

At the Naval Academy we have an informal "Anchor" award for the person who graduates but is ranked last in the class. NFL draft has "Mr. Irrelevant". Maybe they could figure out an award for the person/movie/score/whatever that gets nominated but ends up dead last in consideration for anything...

I think mine would be the "In My Thoughts & Out of my Closet" award ceremony. I always get some weird gifts during the holidays that I either own, probably won't use, or simply disagree with, but typically know someone who might.

So, "Thanks for coming to this year's ceremony, I already have The Social Network on blu-ray, but I know Alissa will love this DVD to go with her Fast and the Furious DVD box set from last year, so....here you go!"

Other great awards up for grabs: a clothing accessories for my most fashionable friends, office supplies for ardent workers and ultimate organizers, kitchen gadgets for my favorite home chefs, and maybe even a random jar of marmalade for my most flavorful friend.

It will be my annual way of saying that I'm thinking of you...kinda.

    The Mister Nice Guy Award

This award goes to the man who treats all people with respect and courtesy which may or may not include:

    • Opening car doors for their spouse and other ladies in his life
    • Opening doors for anyone when there is another person behind him
    • Fixing rugs in front of doors that people trip on but never straighten out
    • Willing to give that telemarketer their 2 minutes to introduce themselves before saying he was not interested and a thank you
    • Picking up the paper from the driveway of a neighbor that is away
    • Showing up at his kids shows, sporting events, award ceremonies and just about everything else in their lives
    • Knocking on the door at night to let the neighbor know their garage door is up
    • Letting the oncoming car they can turn in front of you

Many more can be added to the list, but these men are few and far between and need to be awarded.

Loving all the award ideas so far. Just for fun and along similar lines as @Robert Gacula, how about a "Sore Loser" award? You know--for those folks at the awards shows or athletic championships who are clearly fake clapping/smiling for the winner, only to then go onto social media afterward and troll the winner? (Kinda like I will if I don't win this contest 😜)

I'm thinking of the "Dead horse award".  I use to work one place where meeting members just couldn't get enough of trying to make their point and or convince everyone in the room their meaningless point was valid.  Once we had enough of it I brought a statue of a horse and put it in the main meeting room.  From then on if anyone, absolutely anyone in the meeting felt we were done talking about a subject they could lay the statue down and we were required to go on to the next subject on the agenda.

This award goes to anyone who just can't take the hint that no one wants to talk to you or about your pet peeves any more!!!

I would give out a MVP production crew member award! There is more than I can even imagine going on behind the scenes and I think it would be cool for an appropriate person from the film crew (director, production manager, etc.) to choose the MVP to be nominated for their film. The films with the most nominations in other categories would compose the list of potential MVPs.

I'm finding this really difficult but I did think of one. The Adulting Award. I first thought of this for my children, 20 and 30, for doing something as an adult without prompting or calling for advice, although this could easily apply to me. Like when you don't eat all the cheesecake in one sitting.

The award for this would need to be either something really dull or the opposite as we forget that we can still be young at heart.

How about an award for resisting your funny-but-you-shouldn't-do-them ideas? I'm sure there are many others who, like me, find themselves multiple times a day thinking "wouldn't it be funny if I said/did....?" in response to a situation. Then I remind myself that even though it would be hilarious, that wouldn't really be a very nice thing to do, and I calmly resist those urgings from my inner 8-year-old, and just smile and bite my tongue.
