    Action required

    • If you want to use AI tokens for speech and text analytics, then you do not need to take any action.
    • To avoid AI token charges for speech and text analytics, remove the relevant permissions from your Master Admin role by February 24, 2025. For more information, see How do I opt in or out of these changes? 

    Who is affected?

    If you are a Genesys Cloud CX 1 or Genesys Cloud CX 2 customer without Genesys Cloud CX 1 WEM Add-on II or Genesys Cloud CX 2 WEM Add-on I, then you are impacted by this change. 

    What are the upcoming changes? 

    In Q1 2025, Genesys Cloud will add speech and text analytics (STA) capabilities to the Genesys Cloud CX AI Experience. As a result, organizations can use speech and text analytics without the need to upgrade to Genesys Cloud CX 3 or add the Genesys Cloud CX 2 WEM Add-on I bundle.   

    This addition gives organizations with the AI Experience bundle a more affordable way to access AI features, including voice transcription, sentiment analysis, empathy analysis, sensitive data masking, and topic mining without purchasing the entire Workforce Engagement Management (WEM) suite. 

    How does this change affect me? 

    This change simplifies how to leverage AI capabilities within Genesys Cloud. By adding speech and text analytics to the AI Experience bundle, you can unlock these features without subscribing to Genesys Cloud CX 1 WEM Add-on II, Genesys Cloud CX 2 WEM Add-on I, or Genesys Cloud CX 3 licenses.  Instead, speech and text analytics capabilities are usage-based and if enabled, consume AI tokens. 

    What will I receive? 

    As part of the Genesys Cloud CX AI Experience bundle, each organization automatically receives 250 free AI tokens per month, which enables them to try AI features like speech and text analytics.

    How do I opt in or out of these changes? 

    Genesys Cloud adds the latest new permissions to default roles via periodic updates. You can add new permissions manually without altering any modifications you made to the role, or you can restore the role to the default state and receive the new permissions automatically. 

    When you restore a default role, the system does not retain permissions you added, and restores permissions you deleted. To return a role to the default state with its original and updated permissions, perform the steps in the Opt out and restore the default role procedure below. By taking these steps, you can ensure that your organization is prepared for the upcoming changes and avoids any unintentional charges.

    Opt out and restore the default role

    To restore the default role and opt out of these updates, follow these steps: 

    1. Click Admin.
    2. Under People & Permissions, click Roles/Permissions.
    3. Navigate to the Master Admin role and click it.
    4. Click Restore Default Role.
    5. Review the removed and added permissions listed in the window that appears. 
    6. Click Restore. This step removes the following permissions from the Master Admin role: 
      • Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit 
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Settings > View, Edit 
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Program > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Category > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Feedback > View, Add, Delete 

    Opt out and manually remove permissions from the role

    To manually remove the permissions from the Master Admin role and opt out of these updates, follow these steps: 

    1. Click Admin.
    2. Under People and Permissions, click Roles/Permissions.
    3. Navigate to the Master Admin role and click it.
    4. Click the Permissions tab.
    5. Search for and remove the following permissions from the role:
      • Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Settings > View, Edit
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Program > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Category > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish
      • Speech and Text Analytics > Feedback > View, Add, Delete
    6. Click Save.

    Anik,

    Clarification please.  

    Are you saying that if I have GCx1 or GCx2 and no +WEM, that I could just pay the token charges for these features in STA?

    You say Opt Out, but what you are really saying is to remove permissions from roles that would be charged otherwise.  What about the issue where calls to a WEM or GCx3 get transferred to a GCx1 or 2 or even Communicate user without those permissions and they get an uplift automatically?  Are you saying that won't happen and they will be charged this Token amount instead?

    I don't see anywhere about how much this will costs, or rather how many tokens this will consume.  Do you have a link for that?

    Finally, do you think 30 days' notice is sufficient for a financial change like this?

    Hi Robert,
    Here's a breakdown of the changes:
    • For GC1 and GC2 users without the WEM Add-on: You'll now have the flexibility to pay for STA features using tokens. STA features will be priced at approximately 30 tokens per user per month, and your organization will receive 250 tokens per month. This new model offers a more cost-effective way to access valuable AI features like voice transcription and sentiment analysis.
    • Transfer Scenarios: We're aware of the issue where transferring a WEM user to a Communicate or GC1/GC2 role can inadvertently result in unintended charges. We are actively working on a solution to prevent this from happening and will share an update on the estimated timeframe soon.
     
    We believe this new token-based system will provide greater value and flexibility for most users. While we recognize that these changes primarily affect Master Admin roles, we've introduced the free token allocation to help offset any potential disruptions.

    Hello,

    I have two questions.


    The statement mentions that as part of the Genesys Cloud CX AI Experience bundle, each organization automatically receives 250 free AI tokens per month, enabling them to try AI features like speech and text analytics. However, I understand that if you have concurrent licenses, the organization is granted 350 tokens for free, and if you have named licenses, the organization is granted 250 tokens for free. Are these 250 tokens separate from the 350 tokens and 250 tokens automatically granted to concurrent and named organizations, respectively, and only provided to each organization when using the STA function? Or are they the same?

    Please let me know the timing of the charges. Is it correct to understand that STA tokens are charged the moment a user with these permissions logs in?

    Named orgs get 250 AI Tokens and concurrent orgs get 350 AI tokens.

    There is no separate allocation for the STA Add On. They are the same.

    The Add On is scheduled for the end of February 2025.

    If Master Admin users have the STA permissions after launch, they will be charged for STA via tokens. 30 tokens for Named and 45 tokens for Concurrent. You can prevent that by clicking the Restore button as outlined in this announcement.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your response.

    Could you please provide more details about the timing of charges?

    Is my understanding correct that charges will not be incurred if the relevant permissions have been granted, but the user does not log in? Or are charges applied for all users who have been granted permissions, regardless of whether they log in or not?

    The background for this question is that we want to confirm whether it is necessary to remove permissions from all users who have already been granted those permissions.

    The target is Feb 24, 2025, to release this offering. Not all users are affected, only the user who is assigned the default master admin role. 

    I am not sure why you would remove permissions from users who already have those permissions. Clearly, those users are interested in using Speech and Text Analytics features?

    Logging in or off has no impact on license provisioning.

    Question: The instructions say to make the permission change for Master Admin? What about agent roles?

    Question: If you remove the permission, will STA not work for that user?

    Question: What is the token usage for STA?

    Question: If a client has 10 CX2+WEM and 5 CX2, will token usage only apply to the 5 CX2 (does not sound like it to me)

    Question: If you remove the permission, will STA not work for that user? Anik: The announcement is targeted at customers not using STA today. If you are already using STA, you don't need to update any permissions.

    Question: What is the token usage for STA? Anik: 30 tokens per user per month (to be finalized soon)

If you want STA only, you need a contract amendment to remove WEM and then you will be charged for STA only. Otherwise, those 5 users will be charged for WEM if they use STA features.

    All the STA features that are part of WEM Add On/GC3 today - voice transcription, topic spotting, sentiment/empathy analysis, sensitive data masking, topic miner, content search, interaction categories, acoustic analysis, and topic analytics views.

    Note that the only billable features within STA are voice transcription and topic spotting, they are outlined here:

    When a call is transcribed using Genesys Native Voice Transcription or a digital interaction topic is spotted for any agents associated with the interaction.

    Also, these are permissions that will trigger STA Add-On:

    • Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish

    Thanks, so in the case of two agents, Agent A and Agent B, if they both take the same type of call, but one has these permissions and one doesn't, the call is only topic spotted or transcribed against the agent with the permissions?  What about topic spotting for things like evaluation assistance?  For GC3 users are no tokens used at all?  So if we have GC3 users, and are using AI tokens for copilot, with those GC3 users NOT consume AI tokens for STA stuff?  How can we be assured that's the case?

    GC3/WEM Add-on customers are not impacted by this change.

    GC3/WEM Add-On customers will NOT consume AI tokens for STA features. They can use the AI tokens for other features like Agent Copilot or Virtual Agent. Full list here:

    Genesys WEM/STA licensing works in 2 ways - (1) permission-based (2) usage-based - voice transcription or topic spotting. More on that here:

    In your example, if Agent A has the STA permissions, they will be charged for STA. Agent B can be charged for STA despite not having these permissions, only if their call is transcribed or a topic is spotted in their call.

    Evaluation assistance will not work with the STA Add-on. You need WEM Add On or GC3 for that because STA doesn't include the QM evaluation form features.

    Thank you so much for the clarification on this. However just one more query and should be a simpler one. So for customers with a mix of CX2 Named + Hourly Interacting Named licenses ( no add on's of any sorts) , the assumption should be roughly 30 AI tokens per Named user and PAYG on the Hourly Interacting tokens. And those PAYG tokens should be directly attributed to the number of hours those agents spend in interacting state ?

    STA Add On will cost 30 AI tokens per user per month for Named and 45 AI tokens per user per month for concurrent, pricing will be officially announced when the feature GAs. It doesn't support Hourly Interacting, so if you use STA features as an HI user, you will be charged for Named (30 tokens). None of the token features support HI as far as I know, I will double-check for you.

    How many transcription minutes are included in the 30 tokens? Is this based on the fair use of CX3 or the WEM add-on (5000) or based on a calculation of the value of the tokens and the overage price (In Euro you would then come out to 3000 transcription minutes).

    With 30 tokens you will get 1500 minutes of voice transcription, you can use either Native or EVTS. Overage will be charged at $0.01 per minute for both Native and EVTS. More on this to come when the offer goes GA next month.

    It was advised that "If you are a Genesys Cloud CX 1 or Genesys Cloud CX 2 customer without Genesys Cloud CX 1 WEM Add-on II or Genesys Cloud CX 2 WEM Add-on I, then you are impacted by this change."

    I had looked into our GC1 & GC2 Orgs which don't have the WEM add-on,

    • GC2 Org was renewed recently and AI experience tokens were provided when I verified the admin role and no STA permission was assigned.
    • GC1 Org, (Not yet renewed) When I verified the admin role no STA permission was assigned.

    Can you please clarify does the permission will be added to the admin role after the Genesys changes to the AI experience bundle and STA and then we have to verify the admin permissions?

    @Anik Dey  My apologies, I was referring to the master admin role in my previous message. I have re-checked the Master admin role in both the GC1 and GC2 Orgs ( without the WEM add-on), and I can confirm that they do not have the Speech and Text Analytics permissions enabled. Can you please clarify why these Orgs will be impacted by these changes when STA permissions are not enabled in the Master admin role?

    Good that you don't have these permissions in the Master Admin role. You mentioned one org has AI Exp tokens on renewal but the other one doesn't. It's best to restore to the default Master Admin role for both orgs so that when the STA Add-On is added to AI Exp tokens in Feb 2025, your Master Admin will not be impacted. If you don't restore, the STA permissions will be added to your Master Admin when STA Add-On is added to AI Exp Tokens.

    Do I understand correctly that if Master Admin role had some permissions altered during org lifecycle then this role will have STA permissions added automatically? On only if Master admin role is resetted to default, then those STA permissions will not be added there?

    1.) Could you please confirm if the customer is a CX1 or CX 2 with no WEM Add-on II or I + NO AI experience tokens enabled, will they be impacted by this change?

    2.) If the customer is a CX1 or CX 2 with no WEM Add-on II or I + AI experience tokens enabled, will they be impacted by this change if any of the below two permissions are enabled on any roles that are currently being assigned to users?

    1. Yes, they will be impacted if they add AI Exp Token Bundle in the future. So it's better to restore their Master Admin role just to be safe.
    2. Master Admin is the role that is impacted. I am not sure which roles you are sharing in your screenshots. The specific permissions you can remove are listed in the announcement:

    I logged in to one of our customers who is GC2 with AI Experience tokens enabled, but with no WEM Add on 1. I cannot see any of below permissions in the Master admin role in that GC Org.

    • Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Settings > View, Edit 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Program > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Category > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Feedback > View, Add, Delete 

    So I believe on 24/02/2025, Genesys will add the above permissions to all the roles in this GC org, but only enable it on the Master Admin role. However, my point was that if we have ticked "Routing > All Permissions" & " "Speech and Text Analytics > All Permissions" in any other roles, when Genesys adds the above permissions to the same GC Org on 24/02/2025, the system should automatically enable above permissions in those other roles as well. 

    In other words, this change will not only affect the Master Admin role but all roles that have "Routing > All Permissions" & " "Speech and Text Analytics > All Permissions" will be impacted as well. Correct me if I am wrong.

    These permissions will be added and enabled on the Master Admin default role unless you click the "Restore" button in your default Master Admin role before Feb 24. For other roles, it won't be enabled.

    If you have ticked those permissions in other roles, basically you're not using the default role but a custom one. If those custom roles now have STA permissions, you are explicitly telling the system that the user is interested in using STA features, and therefore be billed for either WEM or STA.

    Just to clarify as reading all I'm still a bit confused about how this will be applied.
    If we have CX2 with WEM Add-On I:

    1. Are we impacted for the change?
    2. Will be granted for the 250 tokens per ORG use?

    Our Master Admin Role doesn't have applied these permissions but we have other roles using some specifics as:

    + routing.transcriptionSettings = view
    + speechandtextanalytics.topic = add, view, publish
    + speechandtextanalytics.program = view
    + speechandtextanalytics.category = *

    So I have no clear if we will incur in additional costs.
    Could you please clarify?

    If you have WEM Add On, this announcement shouldn't concern you.

    If you add AI Exp Token Bundle to your org, you will get 250 tokens per month. But since you have WEM already, you won't be able to use those tokens for the STA Add On. WEM already includes STA.

    You can use the tokens for other use cases like Agent Copilot, Virtual Agent etc:

    Hello. I am not sure to understand. 

    If we GCX1 or GCX2 and only use voice channel. And we don't modify the master admin role. Is there a risk to be charged with STA tokens ? (If we don't activate trascription in STA parameters)

    In other terms, can you confirm that this change will have no impact on voice-only organizations (CX1), if they did not activate voice transcription ?

    Other question : if master-admin role is not assigned to anyone in the org, will there be an impact ?

    (it's written that add-on will be counted with AI token per user. But usually users don't have master admin role.  If only master-admin role is impacted, how Genesys will count this usage that is user-based?)

    If you plan to add AI Exp Token Bundle to your GC1/GC2 org in the future, it would be best to "Restore" your Master Admin Role. We are adding STA to the AI Exp Token Bundle which will add STA permissions to your Master Admin. By restoring Master Admin, you can make sure the permissions will not be added in the future.

    @Anik Dey - Appreciate you taking time out to answer all of our questions. One of the major benefits Genesys Cloud offers is providing interaction transcripts for each of our interactions (user/station to user/station interactions being an exception, for now.) I apologize that [for me at least] I think I see the answers to my questions in the previous discussions around STA, but want to make sure. Here's some context before I ask:

    • Prior to your announcement we had just over 2100 Concurrent GC3 licenses and were transcribing interactions just fine with no on-demand charges. We were also in contract renewal discussions.
    • We literally just renewed our contract on 1/31 to migrate to 2300 Concurrent GC2 with 1300 WEM Add On 1 licenses.
    • We also have voice transcription enabled on all of our queues.

    Based on your announcement (Master Admin role aside given we're fine there), is my understanding correct that going forward:

    • Interactions will only have transcripts if the call routed to one of the users we apply the WEM Add On 1 license/permissions? Or are you saying that all interactions will continue to be transcribed, but we'll be charged if:
      • Transcription is enabled on a queue regardless of if the users have the WEM Add On 1 license and we'll just need to monitor our transcription usage and adjust Queue voice transcription accordingly.
      • [By happenstance] an interaction is transferred from a user with the WEM Add On 1 license/permission to a user that doesn't, and this is something you all are seeking to rectify.
      • Any topics are triggered by an interaction, even if said interaction is answered by a user without the WEM Add On 1 license/permission.

    Voice transcription can be turned on per queue via queue settings. It can also be enabled in a flow via Architect:

    When voice transcription is turned on for a queue, all the agents in that queue will get their call transcribed and be charged for WEM Add On.

    If you blind transfer from queue A with transcription ON to queue B with transcription OFF, the user in queue B will not be charged for WEM. However, if you do a warm/consult transfer, the user in queue B will be charged for WEM.

    If a topic is spotted for an interaction answered by a user without WEM, that agent will be charged for WEM.

    We are going to rectify that and prevent that from happening. We are working behind the scenes to fix this product limitation.

    Sorry to bother you again, but we have a lot of clients, in different configurations, and this is very impactful.

    Let's see another case: let's imagine I am in GCX2, without WEM addon, but I'm using Agent Assist (or Copilot, never mind).

    Will I automatically benefit from STA features such sentiment analysis ? And, if so, how many tokens will this consume per agent ? 

    I suppose we will have to create a new role with these permisssions (the same as in master admin role) : 

    • Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Settings > View, Edit 
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish

    Agent Copilot gives you voice transcription but it doesn't give you other features like sentiment/empathy analysis, topic spotting, sensitive data masking, topic miner etc.

    These features will need the WEM Add On or the new STA Add On.

    You don't need to create a new role, when the STA Add On launches we will introduce a new role called "STA Admin", that role will include all the relevant permissions. 

    STA Add On costs 30 tokens per user per month for Named and 45 tokens per user per month for concurrent.

    You can assign this role to supervisors. But note that agents who use voice transcription (without Agent Copilot) will also be charged for the STA Add On if they are using transcription just like WEM Add On.

    Organization are billed for the following two scenarios:

    I have studied this update, but I still have one question. Please let me know.

    My customer has "CX1/2 + WEM Add-on + AI Exp Token" organization.
    According to the RC article, the STA Add-on will be charged if we add the following:

    • Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Settings > View, Edit
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Program > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Category > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish
    • Speech and Text Analytics > Feedback > View, Add, Delete 

    The bottom five, "Speech and Text Analytics > ..." are included in the WEM Add-on. (https://help.mypurecloud.com/articles/add-workforce-engagement-management-to-your-subscription/). So, even if we add these rights, I think they can be covered with the WEM Add-on.
    But, "Routing > Transcription Settings > ..." are NOT included in the WEM Add-on.


    My question is ...
    If we have a user who has "Routing > Transcription Settings > ..." enabled, will that user be charged for the "STA add-on" token in addition to the WEM add-on?

    I have questions on this related to WEM Add-on I and Tokens consuming.
    We have WEM Add-on I licenses for a range of agents to use STA and now we're evaluating using some specific copilot capabilities as auto-summarization and maybe AI Insights (I believe are managed both together if we consume Tokens for that) for all our agents.

    As Summarization and AI Insights are based over the conversation analysis, we must acquire WEM Add-on I additional licenses for all agents?
    I know that we could also use Tokens for auto-summarization/Insights plus STA but this would be another topic.

    Last questions is to ensure requirements for voice interactions auto-summarization and AI Insights. I believe we need to have all our EDGES in the cloud instead of on premise. Could you please confirm that?

    Your org needs to have at least 1 WEM Add On to turn on AI Summary/AI Insights in Program Settings. You also need transcription, without transcripts there is no summary generated. So yes, you need either the WEM or STA Add On for all the agents if you want to summarize or generate insights.

    STA is now available in the Tokens SKU, so as a GC1 or GC2 customer you can get STA via Tokens and also use the Supervisor Copilot features as they are also part of Tokens.

    • With a BYOC Premises telephony connection (Native and Extended Voice Transcription Services), the transcription occurs after the recording has been completed and uploaded, and depends on the length of the interaction. Usually, this process takes about half the length of the interaction. As an example, once a 10-minute interaction has finished and is uploaded to the cloud, it takes around 5 minutes for the transcription to complete and become available to users. As a result, no real-time capabilities/use cases are supportable with this type of configuration.

    Scenario is that I want to use auto-summary on every single interaction and using that for agents and supervisors both. All agents are CX2.
    My general understanding is that there are no specific roles for Copilot and capabilities are all set by permissions
    - For Agent, I can get AI Summarization just using tokens (permissions required in agent role would be specifically added)
    + Summary of the interaction (just where agent has participated)
    + Reason for contact (based in summary)
    + Resolution (based in summary)
    + Auto Wrap-up code suggestion (based in summary)
    - For Supervisor, I can get AI Summarization just using tokens as same than Agents (same for permissions to role as above)
    + Summary of the interaction (just where Supervisor has participated)
    + Reason for contact (based in summary)
    + Resolution (based in summary)
    + Auto Wrap-up code suggestion (based in summary)
    If I want to get AI Insights, I will need also a WEM Add-On I or STA Add-On license to get transcription over queues assigned to Program/s.
    With AI Insights, the Supervisor will also see:
    + Reasons for contact (based in the overall interaction and all agents' participation)
    + What is the resolution (based in the overall interaction and all agents' participation)
    + What happened with the agent and what the agent said (based in the overall interaction and all agents' participation)
    + What is next action that agent is going to take (based in the overall interaction and all agents' participation)
    + Positive and Negative sentiments for the customers with the why explanation (based in the overall interaction and all agents' participation)

    Can anyone confirm that new permissions have appeared on the CX1 or CX2 instance without WEM Add-on and with available free or committed  AI tokens?

    Routing > Transcription Settings

    Yes, we have a couple of customers with CX2 without WEM Addon but with free AI tokens. Before this change, I could not see the below permissions. However, after this change, I can see these permissions.

    Routing > Transcription Settings

    Speech and Text Analytics > Settings > View, Edit 
    Speech and Text Analytics > Topic > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
    Speech and Text Analytics > Program > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
    Speech and Text Analytics > Category > View, Add, Delete, Edit, Publish 
    Speech and Text Analytics > Feedback > View, Add, Delete

    Hi Anik,

    Are you able to clarify -- suppose you have Routing > All Permission enabled on a role but the Speech and Text Analytics permissions are turned off. In this scenario you would automatically receive Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit (assuming you meet all of the other specified requirements)

    Are you able to advise if the customer would be subjected to charges in that scenario (IE Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit = on only)?

    Yes if all permissions under Routing are enabled for the role, the role will inherit:

    • Routing > Transcription Settings > View, Add, Edit

    In this case that user with the role is subject to be billed for Speech and Text Analytics. The user can update the role to remove these specific permissions.

    Hi Anik, even though I removed these specific permissions, the new billing model has already been applied to the org "AI Experience Tokens Concurrent". There is a cancel button beside it, should I hit cancel to make sure the client is not billed. Please note the client does not use speech and text analytics. Thank you
