  • 1.  Area Code Table in Genesys Cloud

We just transitioned to Genesys cloud; previously we had to import updated area code tables into Pure Connect so we have a few questions.

How does the Area code table get updated?

Is there a way to export the area code table?

    Thank you

Sorry, all automated by Genesys in the Cloud - no access to that.  Now, you can create your own data table and do a lookup yourself, but there is no way to change the remote name when alerting agents.  Personally, I have not seen that many updates to that table listed in the features page.  Not sure of the frequency.  Maybe @David McMillan might have a clue or who to ask.

Thank you for the quick response.

I assumed Genesys maintained the area code table.

Previous dialer systems I have managed you could see the actual table to validate the TZ settings.

We updated the area codes quarterly so perhaps @David McMillan knows or has a contact

    Gregory,

One of the hardest transitions to make when moving from a Prem-Based system to "The Cloud" is the loss of control / responsibility. You are no longer responsible for maintaining a lot of stuff, which is a blessing and a curse! No updates to schedule (with corresponding outages) and so on!

In this case, the table is maintained by Genesys in the background. As Robert says, there don't appear to be updates to it mentioned in the release notes, but that could be because it is seen as just ongoing maintenance. Hopefully, the responsible parties at Genesys will weigh in with specific details.

In the meantime, lay back, relax and practice the mantra "it's no longer my problem...."

I definitely will take that process off my plate!

However, my Ops team and IT team will need to know the update cadence, so I still need to chase that down.

I would like to "view" the table since inevitably there will be a complaint about calling out of Timezone and I will need to document the settings.

Ahhh! It wasn't clear from your original post that this was with respect to outbound dialing restrictions. I assumed (as, based on his initial response, I think @Robert Wakefield-Carl did) that this was for inbound use!

TBH, with number portability these days, the Area code alone is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to determining geographic location and therefore time zone and as a result allowable dialing windows. My good friend @Jay Miller has some horror stories about that! My advice is, if you are able to, make use of the ZIP code for this (either instead of, or as well as, the Area Code). This assumes you are located in the United States.

Additionally, I believe Griphon / DNC.com have the ability to help with determining if dialing is acceptable, based on the time, as well as processing the Federal and State Do Not Call lists, so I would investigate their services as well. (No harm in covering your bases here!)

Having said all that a lot of folks rely on this functionality and I don't know this for certain, but I suspect that Genesys keep the table pretty much up to date with changes to the NANP. They will be able to give more detail, but if I were them I would be updating the tables as the changes are made, rather than on a specific fixed cadence. @Chad McCormick might be able to shed some more light on this?
