What values are you assigning to clear the variable (and the input)?
Check Boxes are associated with a Boolean, so if you want it un-checked, you need to assign "False". Radio Buttons are associated with a String, so setting the value to "" should work. Numbers, I'd just set to zero.

What action have you associated with the button?
I would create a Custom Action that assigns empty values to all of the variables associated with the inputs. (Of course, if it's only one input, the Custom Action isn't needed, you can just assign the value directly.
