Usually, the hardest part of writing these monthly blog posts is coming up with a clever hook for the opening and it donned on me that is a great start for a piece about our new WebHOOK for Events feature.

Released on May 26th, organizations can now set up a webhook integration so that incoming messages from third-party systems can be processed as events within Genesys Cloud.

If you've never heard of webhooks, they are a great way for two separate systems to talk to each other using a standard format. Computers used to have to constantly communicate with each other, tying up system resources and bandwidth with a server constantly replying to a client's queries, even if there was no new data. A great analogy with how the old method worked is similar to a small child on a road trip, constantly asking their parents, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

With webhooks, the interaction in the previous analogy would play out a bit differently. Instead of repeatedly asking, "Are we there yet," the child would give the parent a specific way to let the kid know once they've arrived at their destination and they would wait patiently without repeatedly bugging the parent. With the new webhook functionality with Genesys Cloud, you can now capitalize on some of those functions with chat notifications.

We currently have documentation on a few popular platforms where people would like to be notified, such as if there is a StatusPage change, a ticket is created in ZenDesk, or a pull request is ready in Bitbucket. (Update: these articles have been rolled back) If you're interested in how to add a webhook to your organization, I would highly recommend you take a look at this Resource Center article. And if you would like to create your own generic webhook, this article has all of the details on getting started.

The "StatusPage" link in your post is broken.  Currently it's pointing to https://help.mypurecloud.com/articles/set-up-a-statuspage-webhook-integration/.

    Hey Derek,

Thank you for the info. At the time of publication we had specific articles for those individual platforms but it looks like they were rolled back. I will remove those links in the original post.

If you would still like to dive into using webhooks, I would highly recommend the two articles down below.
