The 2024 Paris Olympics starts July 26th, 2024 and if you're as excited as I am, you're going to love our new Question of the Month for July! This year, several new sports are being recognized to win those coveted medals, such as breakdancing, skateboarding, sports climbing, and 3x3 basketball. That got me thinking:

If you could pick a brand new sports event for either the summer or winter Olympics events, what would it be and why?

There are so many wonderful sports that still have not made it to the biggest global arena in the world. If I could choose, I'd pick ballet. I read that ballet athletes are the most physically fit people in the world, and I feel like this could easily be judged in an Olympics competition (much like ice skating). What do you think? Tell us in the comments below and you'll score this awesome July Olympics-inspired badge for your profile:

Thanks for participating and I hope you'll be rooting for your country for the Paris Olympics starting later this month!

While I wish I could say quidditch, I will say bowling. It was introduced into the olympics back, I believe, in the 80's it never really made it as an official sport. Bowling, while not vigorous, is very competitive. I have been to a bowling alley while a league event and seen the passion and competitive nature in some of the teams. I believe bowling would be fun and amusing to watch.

I would love to see competitive cheerleading as an Olympic sport. I have zero skill, talent, athletic ability, or grace so I am always gobsmacked by their talent.

Pankration. It was an original Olympic sport. I competed in tournaments up to about age 41, before I switched back to fencing :-)

After watching the silliness of the speed walking in Japan, I thought they could combine that with Nerf Target Shooting and just to throw another totally silly event in, how about giving the walkers a couple of steeple chase water hurdles into the mix.

I vote for Nerf!!! I've seen how dangerous it can be with my 9yo son hitting me in the eye with one of the foam darts, lol!

These are all great suggestions! My kids, and especially my daughter, got super into American Ninja Warrior after a birthday party at a ninja gym a few years back, so I'll throw ninja into the mix - or whatever the formal sport name is. The upper body strength of those athletes is unreal.

Can we all agree that pickleball is probably the most likely prospect?

I vote for Dodgeball! I love this game and, not to brag, but I was pretty good at it. I could catch and throw but am small so i was also hard to hit!

I was the last person out on my team in elementary school once, I stood alone for about 30 seconds against an army of 10. Quickly became the scariest moment of my life.

Sometimes I wonder what life would have been like if I had won out? I feel like I would be a way different person now. Probably on dodgeball tour or something.

Somewhat related. Did you know that tag is now a professional sport? It's pretty wild to watch.

Where's corn hole.  One of the rules must be you must have a beer in hand when tossing, and drink a minimum of 2 beers during each set.
