My initial thoughts are I like the look of the cards, but concerned when all are expanded we will see less items on screen at a time which will result in more scrolling.

This is to managed the space in the configuration area like you mentioned. To allow for high level information gathering as you are scanning over the collapsed list, we have put the data name and the data type information into the header section of the card. There won't be any 'expand / collapse all' actions but if you need more than one card open at a time you can use the SHIFT+click to open additional cards.

To provide more information it would make more sense to have the value instead of the type, that is what I'm usually interested in.
Otherwise I will be forced to expand all to see the information I need when looking through a flow.

Type could just be an icon in front of the variable name.
