    Hello Community!

It's the day after All Hallow's Eve (otherwise known as Halloween) and it's time to put down the barrels of candy and loosen the belts for the holiday season. From my birthday; which is today, the Day of the Dead (love that my birthday is on Day of the Dead)! to Thanksgiving, and Matt's favorite Black Friday, we are entering the holiday season!

For the Question of the Month, we want to know: What is your favorite holiday, is and why is it better than the other holidays?

Yes! Your answer can be holidays from any time during the year. We are excited to hear about your favorite holidays. Answer in the thread below and earn this cool new profile badge:

My favorite holiday has been, and always will be, Christmas. I was born ten days before so maybe that is why but I truly think it is the fact that whole world is decorated in beautiful colors, festive twinkly lights, and everyone is just so much kinder to one another. The world just seems more joyful this time of year.

As mentioned in my post I really like Day of the Dead as it makes you pause and reflect on those in our families that came before us, as well as my birthday. But I favorite is Easter. For my family its a time of renewal and reflection and not to mention my kids love the easter baskets.

It's got to be New Year for me, here in Scotland they also give us an extra day..... to get over the hang over I think :) but for me it also signals a whole year before the silly season comes back around

Special mention for Cinco De Mayo (love mexican food and beer) and as I married a Spaniard, we have had many happy Feria visits with our Familia in May

As a Christian, Christmas and Easter have special, spiritual meaning beyond the actual holidays, but for me, Thanksgiving is the time when our family spends dedicated time together around the dinner table and enjoying the outdoors with a hike along the cliffs near our home.  As the kids have left home and creating their own lives and families, it is harder to find that time when we can all be together, making this holiday even more precious to us as empty nesters.

This time of year in general is my favorite because we have 3 straight months of holiday's! Each of them unique but my favorite would be Christmas!

When our children were younger, they had mischievous Elves that would come out and play while they were sleeping. These 3 crazy Elves would play "Reindeer Games" in my hair, have a marshmallow snowball fight, zipline from the top of the stairs and do something different each night while they were sleeping and write in a journal back and forth (they enjoy rereading them each Christmas). The excitement this brought my kids was worth the extra time it took me after they went to bed <3!

It is also a holiday that can bring people together, and the reason for the season is also quite special and beautiful!

It is hard to settle on one...the commercialism has ruined several of my former favorites. These days, Passover is what brings our family together, so it has become my favorite, I think.

I'm another vote for Christmas. It's not so much about the trees and the lights, it's about the traditions for me. The holiday meal that you only get once per year, the same one you've enjoyed on Christmas your whole life. Spending time with the ones you hold dear, whether they are near or far.

My favorite holiday has definitely changed over the years from when I was a kid to now as an adult. I always loved Christmas as a kid, not just because of the presents and the time off from school but there was just something about spending time with family that was always fun. Now a days, once Thanksgiving is over I don't even like leaving my house until after New Years because of how crazy it gets during the season.

I think my current favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It's a great time to spend with my own family at home. We've gotten to the point with so many kids that we can use them as an excuse to not travel anywhere and no one typically comes over because my house is chaos 24/7. We cook low key, have what we want, and truly make it a family holiday.

The 4th of July is my favorite holiday! I love summertime and being outside and add in friends and family and our great nations birth (and fireworks of course), is the best combination. There is no stress to this holiday, no need to plan, prepare and shop for the perfect costume or the perfect gift.

Halloween is my second favorite holiday as I love the beauty of fall, especially here in Idaho where we have four true seasons. The changing of the leaves, the adorable kids in their costumes and candy make it one of the best days of the year!

My favorite Holiday used to be Thanksgiving due to my mother's cooking.. However Christmas has become really special in my life. For me, Christmas keeps things light. It brings a sense of community, caring for others, and joy. :) We normally put up our tree the week before Thanksgiving. My grandparents used to travel and would purchase an ornament from each country they visited. Some were also homemade my grandmother made. Others were from mine and my siblings own recent travels. Our tree is a combination of honoring the past, present, and future. There's just something so special about it. :)

I was torn here but probably Christmas. I'm not keen on the commercialization and the challenges that getting the right presents bring and I'm not religious but with a daughter who sings, hearing Midnight Mass or descants in a Christmas Carol are magical. Something about everyone singing, in the cold and dark, and probably wet as I live in England, and then mince pies and mulled wine (or moldy wine as my wife says).

Like so many here, Christmas is my favorite holiday. My kids (ages 20 & 23) still get excited. It's now less about presents and more about their fond memories from childhood. I love the traditions and being with my chosen family. I love that it's cold outside and cozy and full of love inside. I feel very fortunate.

My favorite holiday has to be Christmas! No worries about commercialization here as we keep it pretty simple. Focus is on time with family, traditions, good traditional food & drinks, watching movies while the decorations cast a nice comforting glow. We do gifts and do have 2 Santa believers in the house which is fun, but we keep the gift giving reasonably limited and thoughtful. I also love the opportunity to send some nice treats to my family overseas.

I love all the Irish/British Christmas favorites; Mince Pies, tins of Quality Street chocolates, watching Carols at Kings (even though I'm not religious), cocktail sausages, Baileys and Sherry. Oh and Christmas crackers, the ones you pull not the food!

Favorite holiday??? Hmmm...I am going to go with Thanksgiving. I really love the versatility of the holiday. Want to hangout with family? Sure! Invite yourself over or offer to host. Prefer a Friendsgiving? Make it happen, cap'n. Either way, you have a hall pass to eat whatever and as much as you want. You can also take in a parade, a mediocre football game, or sneak away for a nap. Oh, plus Black Friday deals are online and ready for your credit card(s) to get all of the exercise you are missing out on.

No stress about what to get someone or even if you are dressed appropriately for the occasion. Sweatpants allowed? No! Sweatpants preferred. Wait...did I take the "thanks" out of THANKSgiving? Maybe, but I'm thankful you won't judge me.

Halloween! I love decorating, costumes and horror movies.  Had to downsize my decorations when i moved back into an apartment, but i have a small collection of baby dolls that I have gotten from thrift stores and spent time painting and making into various things (mummy, medusa, gargoyle etc). Haunted houses are always fun to visit as well.

Being from England, we use the term 'holiday' in the same way you do for vacation, so I almost answered with my favorite place we go on vacation (cough-holiday-cough).

You just can't beat Christmas though. Traditional Christmas day in England looks like this:

Wake up, make a Full-English breakfast for everybody - Sausage, Eggs, Bacon, Fried Toast, Fried Tomato, Mushrooms, black pudding and some beans.
Drink some 'Buck's Fizz' (Prosecco and Orange Juice).
Kids open presents and grown ups open one or two from the real Santa's lol

Then tradition in our house is the Christmas Jump outside in our PJ's:

Then we all get round the table together for a big roast dinner, turkey, beef, gammon, all the vegetables you can think of, bread sauce (very British) and Gravy. We will pull some Christmas Crackers that have little jokes inside to tell at the table, usually have a drink or two, be merry and then regret eating so much lol

The rest of the evening is everyone finding the courage to play a board game together, even though your so tired and full, Christmas movie playing away in the background, until someone is brave enough to throw in the towel, call it a day and go to bed.

That sounds lovely! I've never heard of bread sauce, but I will look it up. That picture of you is pure gold! I hope it's on the mantel every...vacation...holiday? Speaking of, what is your word for "Holidays" like Christmas, NYE, etc.? Or is it "Holidays," you just use the word two ways?

Thanks! I've got a picture of 'The Jump' going back about 20 years now. The height I can reach is getting lower and lower with each year lol

So we'd refer to "The Holidays" like this:

"What you got planned for Christmas?" or, less often, "Doing much for Chrimbo?"

If we catch anyone British calling it "the holidays," they're suitably reprimanded lol.

Halloween. Everything about the holiday. The decorations, the costumes, the parties, the candy, the jack o lanterns, and even just sitting at home watching scary movies.

Any holiday where I can get a day or several off work is tops, but if I had to choose one.  It would be... Thanksgiving! Great to get together with friends/family, celebrate with some nice wine, and (ideally not being responsible for) the turkey!

St. Patrick's Day. It is hard not to celebrate the patron saint of Ireland. However, it is basically a worldwide celebration of luck, fun, and Irish culture. You can be from Ireland, have Irish heritage, or want to wear green for the day and say.

This is a low-pressure holiday that is all about fun and spending time with family and friends. Eating, laughing, and of course, a bit of drink.  (Sláinte!)

St. Patrick's Day blessings upon you.
