Hi Trey,
Ok, so firstly let me make something clear. I believe UX is important. If a system is "clunky" or the UI is difficult to navigate, then it needs fixing. You will get no argument from me on that.
BUT.
I don't know if it's just me, but a small part of me dies inside every time I read that a change will "Modernize" the look of the product. Or fix something that is "Dated". I believe that if something isn't broken, one should think very carefully about changing ("fixing") it - especially when there are other areas of the product that are broken and desperate to be fixed! Too often we hear that a particular feature / enhancement / fix will be dealt with when there is sufficient development resource available - which I understand - but it is difficult to stomach when effort goes into a beauty makeover.
I'm sorry - I looked at your post and to be absolutely honest, I cannot see how the old icons were inconsistent, or how the new ones are in any way better? Someone has clearly put effort into this, but wouldn't that effort have been better devoted to addressing some of the more serious issues our customers and users face? A quick look at the Ideas site will give plenty of examples.
Let me pick out a few...
- WEM-I-85 - Automatically Record All Calls. 371 Votes.
- DIG-I-880 - Web messaging and messenger - Send messaging transcription. 245 Votes.
- INB-I-574 / INB-I-867 / SSA-I-584 - Various takes on automating when transferring. A combined 196 Votes.
- DIG-I-888 - Allow for continuous monitoring of an agent by a supervisor. 174 Votes.
- OTB-I-195 - Schedule a recurring outbound campaign. 114 Votes. Most recent update from Genesys (Jun 27, 2022) states "While we do plan on implementing this feature at some point, it is not currently on our roadmap." It then goes on to describe a very "clunky" work around to a problem that is faced by many customers.
I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture! May I ask what the Idea reference is for this change to the UI and how many votes it received?
Now, I'm not stupid. I understand that some changes require a LOT more developer effort than others and I'm guessing this UI change was one of the easier ones, but for many of us "in the trenches" it is hugely frustrating to see cosmetic updates to the UI being prioritized over basic functionality updates. Or updates that will really make everyone's lives easier. The phrase "putting lipstick on a pig" springs to mind.
What do others think?

Subject: Planned update to Preferences -> Sound settings icons
Hi Genesys Cloud Community,
As part of our commitment to providing advanced notice for user interface changes, I wanted to share a planned change coming this month to the iconography in User Preferences -> Sound:
Currently, the icons in the Sound settings are not consistent with one another:
The update will make the icons similar to one another, as well as more modern and visually appealing:
We hope this change is not disruptive and appreciate any feedback in advance of the change being implemented!
