Hey Erin!
Happy new year! Thanks for coming to me with this question. I want to turn your frowny cloud upside down. I actually really like this move and I'm going to explain why. Please keep in mind that these are my personal reasons. There are two main reasons: 1) it's a smooth transition for you as a Genesys Cloud customer and me as a manager (I can be a little selfish here, right?), and 2) I like the new naming convention and the energy around it.
First, let me ease your mind. For the time being "Genesys Cloud" is a naming convention change. For instance, later this week my buddy Cole and I are going to turn all of the navigational "PureCloud" text and links that are on the community to "Genesys Cloud" (if you were on the community earlier today, you might have seen where we've started playing with the new Genesys Cloud logo on the community's home page).
What's great about the position that we are in as a resource is that the Genesys Cloud product (formerly PureCloud) is not changing.
FUNCTIONALITY WILL REMAIN THE SAME. I'm thrilled because all of the content that exists in the community, created by folks like you and me, is unfazed and still 100% referable. So no heavy lifting from you as a customer or me as a site manager to do an overhaul and get used to a new interface, a new workflow, etc. Even the PureCloud Community Q&A Show episodes that we previously released will keep their current form and continue to be valuable resources for Genesys Cloud users (just shy of being invaluable resources).
The idea of Genesys Cloud excites me. This is a naming change for now, yes, however, it is also an attitude change. I like that with "Genesys Cloud" there is a sense of ownership - Genesys is in the title. Genesys is a company that I love.
I think you are 100% justified to question why we are changing to Genesys Cloud. In my experience, a company would only make a name change like this only if a core piece of technology or the business' ownership was changing with it (I think about moving from a Play Station to a PS2, or any number of acquisitions/mergers). I'm under the impression that we are making this shift because we have high expectations for what this product can do, where it can go, and we want to literally change the product's name because of it. I want Genesys Cloud to blow all of us away and I think it can. I also like the name change now because it's not a double take - there's a name change and new _______ to get used to. I like my change gradual.
I normally refrain from sharing a quote to answer questions, but I think this blurb from the press release really sums up the spirit behind the change:
This shift reflects the evolution of the company and marks the launch of Experience as a ServiceSM powered by Genesys Cloud, which enables organizations to achieve true personalization at scale...Through the power of the cloud and AI, our technology connects every customer moment across marketing, sales and service on any channel, while also improving employee experiences. Genesys pioneered Experiences as a ServiceSM so organizations of any size can provide true personalization at scale, interact with empathy, and foster customer trust and loyalty. This is enabled by Genesys Cloud™, an all-in-one solution and the world's leading public cloud contact center platform, designed for rapid innovation, scalability and flexibility. (Full Press Release) As a customer, I hope the changes and enhancements that are on the way for Genesys Cloud are exciting for you, and I'm sorry if the announcement was a little confusing, but rest assured that the community team and all of Genesys is 100% dedicated to sharing updates and vital information as it becomes available. For now, we have a name change to share, but I'm ecstatic and have high expectations for what comes next.
All the best,
Matt
