Put your BONUS question here!

    Hey trivia players!

Post your answer to the bonus question below to get three additional points added to your overall Trivia Tower score:

What was the first album you ever owned and why? We want to know the story behind it. For example: Was your first album a gift? Did you save all your chore money for months to buy that record? Or did you buy a cassette tape on a whim, just to see what it sounded like?

    I'll go first:

I was a child of the 80s and 90s and when I finally saved up enough money to buy a CD (they were expensive back then, so it took me a month of chores). I bought Whitney Houston's "Whitney," mainly because my mom said that the CD couldn't have the "explicit" label in the corner, lol! But I gotta say, I played that CD until there were too many scratches on it to play anymore. It also started my love of collecting music of all genres, and by the time I was 15, my CD collection was the envy of my schoolmates.

Ok, your turn! I can't wait to hear your stories.

@Nicole Milliken did you not listen to the most compelling use of vocal bass demonstrated on this amazing track? ;) I was young and that song was funny. Sold!

I think the first album (CD) I bought for myself was probably R.E.M.'s "Automatic for the People." They were so different from anything I had grown up listening to in a small southern town and I fell in love with them.

My first album was Foreigner - Double Vision.
It was a 13th birthday gift to me from my Dad.  I have no idea what he was thinking getting me a rock album when I had never expressed any interest in rock, BUT I wore that album out and have been a die-hard rocker girl ever since!
    Thanks Dad!   <3

Not much of a story...the musical tastes of a pre-teen. I was living in Scotland at the time and I really just started to get into music groups. I never missed an episode of Top of the Pops, and I bought a bunch of singles over the course of about a year. I was really into British bands like The Specials, Sham 69,  but the question was 'first album owned,' so that would be Adam and the Ants'  "Kings of the Wild Frontier."

@Christopher Sisson Adam Ant! My sister LOVED him, had a poster in her room and listened to "Goody Two Shoes" on repeat. Ah, good times.
@Robert Wakefield-Carl Have you seen the documentary on the Beach Boys called "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" I just think Brian Wilson is a genius.

@Emily Kammerer - Cassettes still rule! Good luck trying to destroy those things, it's not possible. I still go back in my memory to when I used to  make mixed tapes when the radio was on. You had to stand there and hit record/play at the same time to get the whole song! I'd get so mad if the DJ was still talking through the beginning of the song, lol.

@Matt Lawson - "Sun Splashing?" I-I-I just don't know what to say...except I sorta want that CD now, the age I am now.

There was a time when I had over 20 Beach Boys albums (vinyl). Met and talked with Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston one time in college (Reagan's 1984 inaugural gala). Went to see  Brian Wilson/Al Jardine in concert this year. Love The Beach Boys!

@Matt Lawson, I do still have a small collection - maybe about 25 cassettes that have withstood the test of time. (@Nicole Milliken that includes some mix tapes; I have that same vivid memory of trying to catch a song and hit record right away!) Between my husband and I, we also have around 365 CDs, a relic of sorts now as well. Both collections share a media shelf with a handful of NES games, just left of the VHS tapes. As I type this I'm starting to realize we have an accidental media history museum in our basement...

My first album was Boston on vinyl (of course), a gift from my parents.  They had gone to one of the big stores like Eatons (Canada) and asked the staff at the record dept "what the kids were listening to today".  My brother and I wore out the LP.
