STT is a function of the Bot Flows, not part of Enhanced TTS. Two different technologies.
Enhanced TTS just plays back whatever is given to it.
Bot flows use NLU to convert the speech from a customer into text that can be fed to an LLM then to a slot/variable

Subject: Switching from Genesys Enhanced TTS to Google TTS – Do I also need STT?
Thanks Mahyar for quick response!
I've used Genesys Enhanced TTS with other clients in the past and never had to separately enable STT for bot flows.
Does Speech-to-Text come by default with Enhanced TTS, or was it automatically included behind the scenes?

Hi Shiva,
Great question. To clarify:
Text-to-Speech (TTS) is only responsible for converting text into spoken output.
Speech-to-Text (STT) is what enables the bot to capture and interpret what the caller says.
If your voice bots are designed to understand spoken input (not just DTMF), then you will still need STT enabled/configured, regardless of which TTS engine you switch to. Switching from Genesys Enhanced TTS to Google TTS only affects the output voice. For the input/recognition side, STT must remain in place for the bot to continue functioning correctly.
So in short:
Yes, you need STT (for voice input).
TTS alone won't cover speech recognition.

Hi All,
We are planning to switch voice personas from Genesys Enhanced TTS to Google TTS since Genesys is decommissioning Google personas from Enhanced TTS.
Question: Do I also need to install/enable Speech-to-Text (STT) along with TTS in order to continue supporting voice bot functionality (bots designed to understand spoken words)?
Thanks in advance for your guidance!
