This is definitely doable via simple client-side JavaScript customization. It is also a good idea to add as native Action Map trigger, see this Idea > https://genesyscloud.ideas.aha.io/ideas/CEPE-I-50

I haven't looked at this in a long time so hopefully somebody else can chime in. But it's possible you can subscribe to the Launcher.Visible event and then call the Messenger.openConversation command.

That's exactly what I'm looking for, thank you. You've answered it, I think, but just to clarify, is there no way to get this functionality without leveraging the SDK and custom Messenger Launcher?

This is possible with the SDK: https://developer.genesys.cloud/api/digital/webmessaging/messengersdk/
Especially the Messenger.OpenConversation function which might be what you are after:

Subject: Web Messaging - Auto Pop
Hopefully this makes sense, but we are trying to find ways to auto-pop our web messenger after a certain amount of time. On the chat widget, we had the chat expand after 30 seconds or so to pull attention to it and encourage people to use it. We already have an action map with Web Messenger that will appear and encourage engagement. Still, we're looking for the next step, which is to open up the web messenger to the homepage without the customer needing to click the icon. Does this functionality exist with the out-of-the-box Genesys UI, or would this require a custom UI?
Current Action Map:

Desired state (after 30 or so seconds, pop to this without requiring customer interaction):
