Just wondering on the Genesys end of things, are tokens persisted somewhere that in the event of the genesys system goes down, all issued tokens would need to be refreshed?

"the genesys system" isn't one thing, so the answer depends on the nature of the outage. A well-behaved application will be built to handle unexpected expiry of its auth token (401 responses), as that can happen due to several different causes.
