Favorite movie of all time?

  • 1.  Favorite movie of all time?

    Posted 5 days ago

To celebrate the Oscars (the 98th Academy Awards), which is Hollywood's favorite night of the year, we're asking you:
What's your favorite movie of all time and why?

Answer this question and you'll earn three (3) extra points on your overall score if you participate in the Oscars Ballot Trivia Tower event!

I'll go first, even though this is a SUPER tough question for me. I'll have to say "The Big Lebowski." I can watch that movie over and over and it never gets old. When I was younger it would've had to gone to "Wayne's World." I know every line of that movie by heart. But The Big Lebowski just has that lasting value for me.
    So now it's your turn!

    Great pics Nicole!!

As a 90's kid I would be tempted to go with The Might Ducks! But I think if I had to say my favourite movie could be 2 extremes, either 'Braveheart' or 'The Greatest Showman' as I can't count how many times I have watched them both.

Looking forward to hearing everyones answers! I think if I answered tomorrow I may answer differently!!!

2001- for a film released in the 1960s - the sci-fi part does not look dated - and in fact most of the science in it has later been proved to be true.... a true masterpiece.
In fact i know all the words for the first 20 mins or so.....

My favorite Indian movie of all time is RRR because its spectacular action, friendship themes, and S.S. Rajamouli's visionary direction make it universally thrilling.

    Why RRR:

This 2022 Telugu epic blends historical drama with jaw-dropping stunts like the "Natu Natu" sequence, earning global acclaim including an Oscar for Best Original Song. Its emotional core and technical brilliance set a new benchmark for Indian cinema.

I think we have talked about this before, but Nicole, we are two peas in a pod. Wayne's World and The Big Lebowski are my top 2 for sure. They waiver for the #1 top spot depending on the day. But both are my absolute go to's and a pure delight to watch (over and over and over again)!

In terms of unique movies, City of Good is still one of my favorite movies to this day; the layer of authenticity makes it very engaging. It was also one of the first movies I ever saw from the Brazilian cinema industry.
In terms of Sagas, no doubt Star Wars, big fan, the last one I saw in the cinemas was in 2018/2019 and was also my first experience with Imax 4DX in London, still remember it till this day.

Favorite movie is a tough one. For reasons of being the most quotable, I would have to go with My Cousin Vinny. An instant classic! So many great scenes that always have us laughing. Honorable mentions would be Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Incredibles, and Batman '89.

For me it has to be The Shawshank Redemption

It's my favorite because it's such a timeless story about hope, resilience and friendship. On the surface it's about prison, but at its core it's really about holding onto hope and quietly working toward something better, even when everything feels stacked against you. Andy isn't loud or flashy - he just steadily keeps moving forward and that quiet determination makes his journey even more powerful.

The character development is masterful, especially the way the friendship between Andy and Red grows over time. It feels natural and earned and Red's narration gives the whole story this reflective, almost nostalgic tone that really pulls you in. The pacing is flawless and it never feels rushed, but it's never slow either.

And of course, it delivers one of the most satisfying endings in film history. After everything the characters go through, it feels completely deserved and uplifting without being over the top. No matter how many times I watch it, it never loses its emotional impact............it's just one of those movies that stays with you.

That's a hard question.  I would have to think about it like, what movie could I stumble upon on TV and, no matter where it is, I would stop and watch it until the end.  With that in mind, I would have to say The Birdcage.

I love Marvel movies, especially because of the emotion of watching them in the theater. Moments like when Captain America lifted Thor's hammer were absolutely epic and unforgettable for the audience.

But if I had to choose my favorite movie of all time, I would go with The Italian Job starring Mark Wahlberg. It's a movie that perfectly mixes action, clever planning, and great teamwork. The heist is smart, the pacing is exciting from start to finish, and the Mini Cooper chase scenes are iconic.

It's one of those movies that never gets old - every time I watch it, it's still just as fun and entertaining as the first time.

Hard for me to choose, I enjoy too many equally.

But I would probably say the Lord of the Rings trilogy... If I'm on a long airplane flight, I will take a look at the whole catalogue, but in the end that's probably what I'm going with haha.

If I was going with something a little more recent, I would say the John Wick movies, especially the first one. The world building in those movies is fantastic in my opinion.

While there's so many to love, a forever favorite is John Carpenter's The Thing. From the pacing, set design, and the masterful creature effects by Rob Bottin and his team, it's the easiest re-watch choice from me. I also respect what Amalgamated Dynamics did for the animatronics and effects in the 2011 film. It may have been a decent movie had the producers not forced almost all practical effects to be replaced by over-filtered, costly CGI.

Planes Trains and Automobiles has to be my favourite.  John Candy and Steve Martin we're a great comedy duo in this film.  It just ticks so many boxes, although its a comedy, there were plenty of elements from other movie genres. It's a real tear jerker in the end.  Anyone that hasn't seen it should check it out.  I don't think you can go wrong with any John Hughes film either.

Hard to pick an absolute favourite but one of the best has to be Shawshank Redemption. The acting performances, the story/script and the narrative itself is just really powerful and I think there is something in there that appeals to everyone. Loss, fear, hope and of course the ending.

My favorite movie of all time is so hard to answer. It depends on my mood, the season, life.. that's like asking me to choose my favorite child. Wait, no... it's harder because Sami is my favorite (don't tell the other 4). I will go with Rudy today because I love a story where someone does the unimaginable even when people told him he would never be able to do - and inspires others to listen to their own heart.

One of my favorite movies is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I really like the darker tone of the story and the way the plot develops compared to the previous films.

But if I had to pick a documentary that is really special to me, it would be "I Am Tim", which tells the story of Avicii. As someone who loves electronic music, it's a very powerful documentary that shows both his incredible talent and the challenges behind the scenes of his career.

My favorite movie of all time is The Matrix.
It felt like a turning point in cinema. The visual effects and action scenes were revolutionary at the time and changed the way many movies were made afterward.
But what really made it unforgettable for me is the philosophical side of the story - questioning reality, control, and what it means to wake up and see the world differently. It's one of those movies that you can watch many times and always find something new to think about.

This is such a tough question.

Some really good answers above and Star Wars the original trilogy for sure shaped my childhood and remains my favorite. Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile are several other excellent movies. Goonies is another one from the 80s. The original Matrix was indeed mind blowing when it released. T2 was also awesome for its day as was Jurassic Park. I also really enjoy many of the Marvel movies and Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones and Last Crusade is prob my favorite Indy movie. LOTR movies are also fantastic as is Harry Potter.

To pick just a single movie is just so difficult. Heck I'd have a hard time picking a single favorite from each genre or a specific decade :)

I think Gladiator is another excellent movie that I don't think I have seen mentioned yet. Dark Knight and Inception were also very good when released.

I say all of the above to simply say I cannot pick a favorite :)

There are many, but the one I really liked the most is Back to the Future. I saw it a long time ago, and to think we're living in the years depicted in it-some things match up, like the AI and communications. Of course, we still don't have hoverboards or time machines. As for the others, Lord of the Rings, which is turning 25 this year, is great, and of course, the ever-present Star Wars, or The Matrix. Basically, it's time to rewatch some old movies.
