Favourite book of all time

  • 1.  Favourite book of all time

    Posted 03-17-2026 12:40

The UK has designated 2026 as the National Year of Reading, and the fair that just closed in London few days ago, served as its global launchpad.

The main objective of this initiative is to re-brand reading by connecting it to other hobbies and to combat the decline in reading for pleasure.

To initiate this conversation, I would be interested to know what would be your favourite book of all time.  I understand that it is a vast subject, but sharing your favourite could motivate others to go and reread 'this old book that you liked so much' or to go to your local library or bookshop to enjoy the discovery of something new or different.

I have to admit - I'm not much of a reader… that's actually one of the reasons I gave up on becoming a lawyer 😄

But one book that really stuck with me is The Monk and the Executive. It brings a simple yet powerful message about leadership being rooted in service, empathy, and consistency rather than authority.

It's a short read, but it definitely makes you reflect on how we lead, communicate, and build trust - both at work and in life.

I would echo Kaio in terms of not being much of a reader these days, but one of my resolutions this year was to try to read more. When I was younger, I was captivated by Dan Brown's DaVinci Code series. I think that would have topped my list then, and I'm planning on revisiting as an adult. I like the root in history, religion and mystery throughout the novels.

Based on what you said John, you would enjoy another of Dan Brown's novel: The Lost Symbol.  Very well written and full of mystery.

I would have to go with "100 Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

    Ishmael by Daniel Quinn

It is a philosophical novel about a man who telepathically communicates with a Gorilla.  I highly recommend it and it is a quick read.

I mostly read books on Psychology & Investment to increase my Intellectual edge. But one book I keep going back for reference & remembrance is - The Art of Thinking Clearly by Rolf Dobelli. Afetrall, it's got 99 chapters about cognitive biasing & mental traps.

I also don't read much these days, but China Mieville's Perdido Street Station is one of favourites (I struggle to pick a favourite of all time!)

He is from the UK actually :)

I'd say The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks. It's fascinating and a bit surreal-it really deepened my curiosity about how the brain shapes our perception of reality.

I recently read The Burnout Society by Byung-Chul Han and found it very insightful.
It feels especially relevant today, considering how technology, constant connectivity, and performance pressure impact both personal and professional life.
Has anyone else read it? I'd be interested to hear different perspectives.

Tough question! My favourite book of all time is The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. It's such a moving story about love, memory, and devotion. I love how emotional and timeless it feels, one of those books that really stays with you long after you finish it.

It's really hard to choose only one!

I think The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. Epic fantasy is always a great choice to turn off my mind for a few hours.
