Has anyone in their spare time ever built a flow that's not related to any business requirements?

I've heard of people creating flows like a choose your own adventure story.  I made one a few years back which was in-queue flow where the user could change the hold music whilst they were waiting.  It was a little janky, but it was fun making it.

I feel if you have spare time it's a good way to expand your skills making something where you're not confined to how your business operates and who knows, whatever you come up might help influence a future project.

Anyone have anything silly or fun they've built in Genesys?

    Hi Robert,

    Love this question.

One of mine was an after-hours callback solution that started as a learning exercise and turned into a surprisingly useful project.

The fun (and frustration) was getting the scheduling logic right in Architect. I spent far more time than I'd like to admit fighting with time zones, daylight savings changes, business hours, weekends, and public holidays to make sure callbacks landed in the correct support window.

The funny part is that today it has been running for so long with zero code changes that I don't even look at it anymore because I know it just works 😂.

Projects like that are great because you end up learning parts of Architect you would probably never touch in a normal implementation.

Isnt it funny how things we spent hours and days on, no longer get any attention.  I guess that's a good thing though that all that hard work went into something you don't need to sweat over.

I find it's also a good way to learn more about new releases.  That way you build something, and if it works well, you can confidently share it with your business for improvement on existing flows.

Absolutely. It's funny how the projects that consume the most time and energy eventually become the ones you rarely think about because they're just quietly doing their job.

What started as a way to address feedback from customers who couldn't contact us after hours and had to wait until the next business day has ended up being a great outcome for both our customers and the support team.

I completely agree on the learning aspect as well. Some of the best learning comes from experimenting with new features and ideas in a low-pressure environment. Even if the original idea never makes it to production, you often discover something that can improve an existing customer journey later on.

    Hey Robert,

I built a flow for me to test a new feature that was coming. It worked, so I didn't use it again until I had to test another new feature. So I built that into my Flow and tested it. This kept happening until the Flow itself became very messy. So I decided to make it better. I built a data table to govern which feature was enabled for testing and which was disabled for testing. This worked well to some degree but I ended up having to use a custom variable to govern how many features were in the data table, in order to govern how many loops were needed, which would allow me to test all features that were enabled, and not just one feature.

It grew arms and legs from a very simple requirement, but it was fun creating problems for myself and finding better ways of doing things.

Back in 2019 Genesys ran a build a bot workshop at Xperience and I still have the Squishy robots from the session.

    https://developer.genesys.cloud/blog/2019-06-10-build-a-bot/

I found I still have a voice version of the flow which included the Ghostbusters theme and voice overs like "He slimed me" as well as  images in the agent script.

I also built a web messaging on hold bot roulette wheel complete with Gifs and betting logic. The only problem was the random number could not be created in the bot so was predetermined.

To be perfectly honest, no, I didn't create anything outside of what was requested, haha...

The good thing about the company I work for is that I don't have to follow a standard; I can create my own.

Whenever a new requirement is requested by a client, I can choose the best way to develop it, and this allows me to do many, many tests.

I usually save the most complex things because when I need them in the future, I save time and already have a structure almost ready.
