hello, our team is wondering whether there are any short term plans to provide support (if not already existing) for async push notifications on native platforms (Android, iOS) as part of the Mobile Messenger SDK or otherwise

Hi @mknight-tt - yes we are building native support for Push within Genesys Cloud:
- We have a Blueprint for Email Push, could be extended to Mobile Push > https://developer.genesys.cloud/blueprints/send-email-notification-when-outbound-message-fails-blueprint/
- Later this year we plan to improve how we detect delivery failure for outbound messages, which can be used as the trigger event in Process Automation (described in the Blueprint)
- In parallel, we are planning to build native support for Push (Mobile Push, Email Push, Web Push, SMS) including GC Push Service integration into Apple Push Notification and Google/Firebase.
