Hi Dave,
For many years, drinking coffee was part of my daily routine. Like many professionals, I relied on caffeine to stay alert, focused, and productive.
However, several years ago, I decided to stop drinking coffee altogether.
The main reason was that I realized caffeine is a chemical stimulant that directly affects the nervous system. While it can temporarily increase alertness and energy, I started to question whether I wanted an external substance influencing how I felt, thought, and performed throughout the day.
Personally, I came to the conclusion that I didn't want a chemical to have that level of control over my body and mind.
Instead, I began looking for more natural ways to maintain my energy and focus. Two practices have made a significant difference for me:
Meditation
Regular exercise
Meditation helps me calm my mind, improve mental clarity, and restore focus without relying on stimulants. Exercise helps boost my energy levels, reduce stress, and support overall well-being.
What I've found is that our bodies are often capable of finding their own balance when we give them the right conditions. Good sleep, regular physical activity, and meditation have become my preferred methods for maintaining productivity and concentration.
As a Genesys developer and lifelong learner, staying focused and continuously acquiring new knowledge is important to me. Since making this change, I've felt more in control of my energy levels and mental state.
This is simply my personal experience, and everyone's body responds differently. But for me, replacing coffee with meditation and exercise has been one of the best lifestyle decisions I've made.

Subject: How do you like your coffee?
Typically an unpopular choice - no coffee for me. I've never had a cup in my life (late 40's) and never intend to. I'm not averse to caffeine - just can't stand a hot drink (I'm aware of the existence of iced coffee) and the smell alone is enough to turn me off. I won't set foot in a starbucks and have to stay clear of the coffee machine at work. Now, if companies provided soda and candy the way they provide coffee, sign me up!
