One ice breaker I've used successfully with clients is "How would you rate your customer experience today?"
At the start of the session, I ask participants to place a sticky note (Lucid) or vote on a slide (PPT) on a scale from 1–10.
Then I ask two follow-up questions:
- Why did you choose that score?
- What would need to happen for it to increase by one point?
It typically takes 5–10 minutes and serves multiple purposes:
- Gets everyone participating immediately
- Surfaces different perspectives across stakeholders
- Creates discussion around business priorities
- Provides useful context for the rest of the workshop
I use it mostly in discovery workshops, strategy sessions, and CX transformation discussions with executives and operational teams.
Tool: Lucidspark (preferred), but it also works well with PowerPoint and Teams polls.
