QOTM June: What would you bake for a TV Show?

  • 1.  QOTM June: What would you bake for a TV Show?

    Posted 16 days ago

    Hey all!

TV is crazy about baking shows and challenges. Think: Great British Bakeoff, Nailed It, Sugar Rush, and even Kids Bakeoff challenges. We thought it would be fun to ask you for our June Question of the Month:

If you were invited to be a contestant on a baking show, what would your show stopper be? It's okay if you can't bake well; just tell us your "fantasy" item or the baked food item you'd want to taste most.

    I'll go first:

I'm just a follow-the-instructions type of baker, but if I could bake anything, I'd hope I could pull off a gorgeous fruit tart like the one pictured below:

Not only would it "wow" the judges from it's beauty, it would be full of seasonal fruits that would knock your socks off! I guess my runner up would be a pudding of some type because...pudding. Would love to hear about international delicacies as well!
Post your answer and you'll get a new QOTM badge added to your profile :)

    Hi,

Although, fruit tart is actually a classic in the world of baking, I've always found the idea of fruits in baked goods a bit perplexing.
Don't they belong in a fruit bowl !?

My showstopper would be a brownie so velvety-soft on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside that it wouldn't need a single drizzle of chocolate syrup to be indulgent. Just pure, rich, cocoa-laden perfection !!

    Thanks

We watch a lot of cooking and baking shows in this house so my kids have weighed in on this question often :)

Setting aside skill, my show stopper would have to be my nana's delicious Italian cookies. There's a ton of nostalgia baked into them for me (pun intended), and you could just taste the love. I have a couple of her old cookbooks, but haven't mustered up enough nerve to try her cookie recipes yet.

In second place, rhubarb all the way. I just picked 24 cups last weekend and it's been a baking bonanza. Maybe a crisp, or some other amazing treat.

I love watching the kids bake off and all of the cooking competition shows! It's amazing to see what they come up with.

If I could bake anything, just to taste it , it would be my grandmother's Lady Locks (clothespin cookie, creme horn, lady fingers). I've tried her recipe, and others online, but I just can't get them to taste like she did.

Good afternoon (if you're in the Eastern Time Zone).  I do bake but mostly breads.  However, if I was going to be on a baking show, I would need to go with my favorite dessert, Tiramisu.   Even if I lost, I would still win because I would be taking that home with me.

It isn't fancy, but it's full of memories and love - my mama's Zucchini Bread. The aroma, the taste... it just says "home" to me. I love it so much, I have had it made instead of a birthday cake a few times!!

Am I allowed to use a bread machine? If so, that'd be my best bet. If not, maybe something from a box? Jiffy Cornbread maybe?

Normal cooking I would do all day long if I could. From scratch baking and I do not have a good history.

There is a berry cobbler I make that has a "drop biscuit" type of crust (almost like a crumble). The only nice thing about it is that I don't have to roll anything out.

Outside of that, I do make good chicken pot pie and lasagna, so depending on the challenge, I may go savory.

We make a chocolate zucchini cake that is delicious and can be made to present well (though ours usually gets eaten too quickly for that to matter)

Creme Brulé is my go to desert, there's something about its simplicity that I love!

    Hello all

If I were to enter a baking competition and be an expert baker I would make a Salzburger Nockerl which is an iconic Austrian dessert, famous for its fluffy and dramatic appearance, resembling the Alps mountains.

Mine would be my german chocolate cheese cake, its thick and rich and a hit every time I bake it.

When making cheesecakes I go to the store and by top shelf ingredients only.

I would have to go with my Pumpkin Cheesecake.  My daughter requests it every birthday in place of a cake.

I thought it was just us Brits that loved "The Great British Bake Off"

Forget the elaborate entremets and gravity defying sugar work! My showstopper would be about pure, unadulterated pleasure... A celebration of British comfort elevated to an art form. I'm talking about a banoffee pie that would make Paul Hollywood weep with joy. (Probably not quite to that level)

Imagine... a thick, buttery digestive biscuit base. Then, a rich, glossy, slightly salted caramel, cooked low and slow until it reaches that perfect point of intense sweetness and almost nutty complexity... Nestled within that golden embrace are generous slices of ripe, sweet bananas, their natural freshness cutting through the richness. And finally, crowning this masterpiece, a cloud of freshly whipped double cream.

Every bite a symphony of sweet, salty, comforting perfection. It's humble in its ingredients, yes, but in its execution and flavour... Wow!

Good question! I'd go with a decadent chocolate cake and pretty edible flowers in lieu of icing decoration. Something like this...
