Tell me about your hobbies

  • 1.  Tell me about your hobbies

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

I'd love to hear about everyone's hobbies and interests. Whether you're into sports, gaming, cars, music, cooking, traveling, photography, crafting, or something completely unique, tell me about it!

What's your favorite hobby, and what got you interested in it? Do you have a hobby you've been doing for years, or something new you recently picked up?

For me, I love sim racing and drifting. Growing up, watching videos of the Japanese street drifters back on Yahoo Video, I fell in love with it, drove for a while, had my first child, and, well, kinda put the wheel up financially. I went down the rabbit hole to scratch my itch, and it has progressively gotten more elaborate. I have the rig set up on the opposite side of my desk: load cell pedals, direct-drive wheels, and random projects to enhance the experience.

(Excuse the mess, ended up moving around the office now that we just welcomed our son. The box on top is being made into a template to make a roof with light bars to add more immersion.)

I have also gotten into watch repair to scratch that mechanical itch I get from no longer working on cars ended up building a watch desk recently from a few different pieces from IKEA.

    Hi Kyle,

I love reading and doing puzzles. I can spend hours doing either one 😍

What about piece size? I picked up one of the Great Wave of Kanagawa last time I was at the store. It's only 500 pcs, but they are also 1/4 the size of a normal piece. I thought it would be a breeze but with the pieces so small and a good portion of the print all being the same color, I found it quite the challenge.

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, spending time in nature, listening to music. I also genuinely enjoy learning new things and experimenting with technology although I'm not sure that last one counts as a hobby anymore! 😄

Always good to have something that helps switch off from the technical world for a while. 😊

It's always good to have something that is outside of the technical realm, gives you a chance not to stare at a screen, and lets your mind reset

When I'm not working, I'm usually switching between two modes: gamer mode and anime binge mode. If there's a new game to try or an anime everyone is talking about, I'm probably already halfway through it or have already finished it. On weekends, I trade my keyboard for football boots and head out to play football with friends.

What are you playing and watching right now? I'm thinking about pulling my old PSP out and loading up CFW to expand its capabilities.

@Kyle Morgan that's awesome! The PSP was way ahead of its time. Installing CFW sounds like a fun project.
Right now, I'm hooked on a few ongoing anime: The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System, From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage, Tomb Raider King, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman S2, The Villager of Level 999, Clevatess S2, and The World's Strongest Rearguard. As for gaming, I recently finished Ghost of Tsushima, but I still keep going back for side quests and exploration. The world is just too good to leave behind.

My favorite part about it is I can load backups of my games directly to the storage and don't have to worry about carrying physical media when I travel. I can't say I'm big in anime, I catch something here and there but they seem to be more slice of life shows, outside of Gundam, Eva, Initial D, and MF Ghost. Wife grew up on One Piece she finally got me to start reading the Manga so I'm trying to play catch up there.  Ghost of Tsushima looks amazing, might need to add that to my list.

My main hobbies are going to the gym, and electronic music! 🎧

I've recently started learning to DJ, so now I spend even more time with music, figuring out which tracks work together and trying to make the transitions sound smooth. Some attempts go better than others. 😂

Martin Garrix is my favourite, and I also really enjoy Alesso, DubVision, and Matisse & Sadko. Going to festivals and seeing these artists live is a big part of it too!

Kyle, reading about your sim racing setup made me smile. I'm starting to understand how "I'll just try this hobby" turns into researching equipment and spending hours practising. 😄

    Hi Kyle Morgan!

That direct-drive rig setup is absolutely insane, Kyle! What a beast of a project!

When I step away from the screens after a day of IT and Genesys troubleshooting, my hobbies are a mix of tinkering with hardware and escaping into the wild:

PC Building & Gaming: I'm a total sucker for hardware! Love building rigs from scratch, neat cable management, testing new components, and upgrading setup parts. And naturally, putting that hardware to work with games (PC, retro consoles, emulators, you name it!).

Gym & Training: My daily sacred routine to blow off tech stress and avoid turning into a chair statue.

BBQ, Fishing & Camping: On weekends, the goal is to disappear and fully unplug from the grid. I love hitting the road, setting up camp in the woods, fishing in local rivers, and throwing a proper charcoal BBQ for family and friends.
