    Hi Community ,

I would appreciate your valuable input on the limitations of using an SMS number purchased via a third party. Certain countries like India, are not listed for purchase of an sms number via Genesys Cloud Admin->Message -> SMS number inventory->Add numbers -> Purchase.

    1) Do I get to use agentless SMS api (with third-party SMS number provider)?

    2) Do I get to use outbound sms campaigns with such numbers?

    3) Any other known limitations that you would know of ?

    Regards
    Garima.

    Hi Garima,

I don't think this is currently possible, but I did find an idea: Genesys Cloud support for local SMS brokers and it is currently in development with a target date of this quarter.

Maybe someone else in the community has come across this before and has an idea how you can work it for the time being.

This is correct.  Genesys currently only allows for its sms broker and Twilio as a 3rd party broker.  Hoping that the roadmap item of allowing 3rd party brokers is in fact still on track for end of Q1 would be nice to have additional options.

For outbound, you can use a voice campaign with a Pre-call Rule to send the SMS via the 3rd-party solution via a data action and then mark the contact as uncallable.  As for inbound, the provider will have to either forward that SMS to a Genesys SMS number or utilize the Open Messaging platform to route it into Genesys, which could also be used for outbound.
