  • 1.  Alternatives to MicroSIP for SIP testing

    Posted 19 hours ago

    Hi everyone,

In my day-to-day work, I sometimes need to simulate a physical SIP phone/endpoint to perform call testing in a Genesys environment, and I currently use MicroSIP for this.

However, I've noticed that after some time, MicroSIP seems to lose the SIP registration, and I need to register the extension again before I can continue testing. I haven't been able to determine whether this is related to a timeout, keep-alive, NAT, or another configuration.

I'd like to know how you usually handle this type of testing. Do you use MicroSIP, or is there another softphone that you've found to be more stable for keeping a SIP extension registered for longer periods?

It would also be helpful to know if there are any MicroSIP settings you recommend to prevent the registration from being lost.

    Thanks and regards.

    Hi there!

I totally get the frustration registration drops are annoying.

For long-term stability, I'd recommend Zoiper (free version) or Linphone, they handle keep-alives and NAT more reliably than MicroSIP in my experience.

If you want to stick with MicroSIP, try these settings:

    • Go to Account → Advanced and set "Registration timeout" to a lower value (like 120 seconds).

    • Enable "Send keep-alive" (UDP or SIP OPTIONS) to keep NAT pinholes open.

    • Check your firewall/router isn't killing idle UDP sessions-set a longer UDP timeout if you can.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you need more detail. 😊
