Genesys Cloud - Main

One of the appeals of BYOC is that we could decide on our own infrastructure. Now, if we understood it correctly, we no longer have the ability to use our own edge, but instead pay Genesys $1200 annually per edge to manage an edge for us. We are connecting Genesys Cloud with Teams and have our own SBC for that and sure would love to have our own edge as well. What are some of the options? Or this is pretty much it and we must use Genesys edge?

Yes, I completely agree with you. This is why I am unsure why Genesys-managed EDGE is required!
To connect Genesys with Teams, first we were told that we need SBC. Teams and SBC working just fine, but it is dead from Genesys side. This is when we were told that we need to have an edge between Genesys CX and SBC. So we started to look into it, and now it seems as we can only get an edge managed by Genesys. Which is counter-intuitive given that Genesys does not want to be in hardware. 

I am a little bit perplexed why we do not need an edge between Teams and SBC but we need an edge between Genests and SBC. Are you saying you were successful in getting Genesys CX connect to Teams without an edge using SBC alone? That would be the best!

If not, then we do have our own Edge, but ... there is no way to add it in Genesys CX because the message says that Genesys no longer allows external edges...

It is true that Genesys no longer wants to be in the hardware business, so they won't sell you an Edge and the Virtual one is also not available.  The Recipe Edge where you buy your own HP server (the exact same BOM listed in the resource center) is your only option, but also requires a good business case and special permission from Genesys to order and yes, there is a subscription cost for it (I think more than $1200/year).  If you are just looking at Teams, connecting your SBC to a cloud trunk is no problem.  Also, companies like Bandwidth.com have solutions to host that SBC for you so you can also get out of the hardware business.

Microsoft requires the SBC for Teams Direct Routing.  That SBC can connect to Teams and to Genesys Cloud over the internet without an Edge device.  You just create a Cloud Trunk in Genesys to connect to your SBC like you did with Teams.
