    Hello everyonne,

I'm currently working on a use case involving customer interactions originating from mainland China, and I wanted to check with you on how your team is handling these scenarios - especially with respect to Chinese data sovereignty laws (CSL, DSL, PIPL).

More specifically, I'm interested in understanding:

    • How do you handle inbound/outbound voice interactions with Chinese customers?
    • Are you using a BYOC Premises or BYOC Cloud Edge located in China or nearby (e.g., Hong Kong)?
    • Have you a design validated ?

    Many thanks !!!

    Hello Francois-régis,

Hopefully someone in the community can provide you some insight into how they have configured their mainland China org.

We deal with and have agents in mainland China, we have calls into an SBC (BYOC Carrier) in HK to the Edge devices.  I wouldn't even go near putting anything in mainland China.  There is no difference in the setup to hosting in Europe.  The only thing I would look at in hindsight is the possibly presenting to an SBC in the same region as your Org as we do suffer from some delay in audio starting due to the edges and org in different regions (prompts not agent to customer) we don't suffer from this in NAM or LATAM, and only seems to be APAC we notice it.

    Hi Andy,

Thank you very much for your quick and clear response - it's really appreciated :-).

Just a quick follow-up: are your agents in mainland China using a VPN connection to reach AWS Europe (IE or DE I suppose) with your SBC in Hong Kong, or is there another connectivity method in place? Do they are able to pickup calls from Chineses users and not only international callers ?

Also, how do you currently manage call recording in this setup? Is it handled locally or stored outside of China?

    Sorry for all my questions

    Hi

Glad to help, we are fully international so have seen it all, we do use a VPN but all the internet / VoIP traffic goes out on local internet connectivity (home or office) , so not over the the VPN and haven't noticed any issues.  I think the China of old is fairly relaxed now but we wouldn't terminate our calls in China.  We receive calls from mainland China, Singapore, Shanghai etc with no issues.  It all depends on the carrier but we have never experienced any issues.  I assume you are thinking the great wall of China (Firewall) causing issues.  We are also just implementing WeChat and have had no issues with that either.

Call recordings are in our local org (we use EUW2)

We just steer away from China due to the cert issues etc

With the Edge servers going away, you should consider other methods.  Are you using the Asia Media Regions in your site settings for the WebRTC phones?  That would be the first -- see if that traffic is being blocked from the users to GC Asia directly.  Secondly, you could consider an SBC near China with registration of phones to that device through some sort of tunnel and then relay that traffic to Genesys Cloud as unmanaged phones.  The same could be done with local trunks into an SBC and routed into GCx.
