  • 1.  Delayed Auto-Answer Functionality

    Posted 9 days ago

    Hi Community!

There is this great idea posted on the idea hub in Genesys to enable x amount of seconds to the automatic answer time in Genesys - ideally to allow the agent to mentally prepare for the inbound call and to preview existing data. The idea is found here: Delayed Auto-Answer Functionality | Genesys Cloud Ideas Portal

While there has been no firm commitment from Genesys yet on this one, I wanted to seek advice in this community, and ask if anyone have built some workarounds for this?

Happy to hear your thoughts 😊

Great idea Filip, I can definitely see the value in giving agents a few seconds to review the screen pop or CRM details before the customer is connected. I haven't come across a practical workaround for this, so I think it would require native platform support.

I've added my vote to the Idea and hope it gains enough traction. I'd also be interested to hear if anyone in the community has come up with a creative approach in the meantime.

Hey Filip, great question this is a common pain point, and while Genesys hasn't committed to a native configurable delay for auto-answer yet, there are a couple of workarounds you can explore. The most promising path is building a custom solution through a routing strategy, since the official documentation notes that the auto-answer timer can actually be overridden that way, allowing you to program a waiting period before the interaction connects so agents have time to review customer data. Alternatively, you can leverage the "Whisper Audio" feature - while it doesn't delay the answer itself, it can play a brief audio clip (like the customer's name or reason for calling) immediately upon connection, providing instant context that many admins have found helpful for smoother transitions, though it does require enabling auto-answer at the user or queue level. Hope these give you some practical angles to test out!

Thank you so much Camila! Appreciate the insights.

Will take a look at this approach!

    Hi Filip,

In most deployments I've seen, the focus has been on reducing agent preparation time through better screen-pop data & customer context rather than delaying the interaction itself.
That said, a configurable delay at the queue level would definitely be useful for more complex interaction types.

    Hi Ashiesh,
    Thanks!

And yes, I do agree with this. There are some more pragmatic approaches, but would have been great with a technical solution in the platform. Maybe some day:)

A delayed auto-answer would definitely improve the agent experience, but it also introduces a risk. If an agent steps away from their desk or forgets to go off-queue, the call would still be automatically answered after the delay. The customer could end up hearing silence or background noise, which creates a poor customer experience. It's would be unlikely to happen provided if agents were well educated and trained.

with all call centers concentrating on ASA I dont know why you would do this, if an agent is working then you should be prepared to talk, if you are not then go busy. adding all the information thats required to answer a call in the data script would alleviate any time delays

    Hi Filip,

I saw the Idea you shared and just added my vote as well.

I think having a configurable delay before auto-answer would be a useful native option, especially for scenarios where agents need a few seconds to review the screen pop or customer context before starting the conversation.

Hopefully Genesys considers adding this in the future.
