    Hi everyone!

What study tips would you recommend for someone who wants to take the Genesys Cloud CX: Developer Certification?

And which topics do you consider most important to focus on while studying?

    Hi Beatriz ,

Based on my experience preparing for the Genesys Cloud CX: Developer Certification (GCX-GCD), I would recommend focusing on understanding the platform as a whole rather than trying to memorize API endpoints. Many of the exam questions are scenario-based and test how well you understand the Genesys Cloud ecosystem, integrations, authentication, and contact center concepts.

    My Study Tips

    1. Complete the official Genesys Cloud API Developer training
      • Go through the recommended training courses.
      • Spend time with the Developer Center documentation.
      • Use the API Explorer and perform hands-on exercises whenever possible. Practical experience is extremely valuable.
    2. Practice in a Genesys Cloud environment
      • Create and test OAuth clients.
      • Experiment with API calls.
      • Build simple Architect flows.
      • Explore Analytics and Notifications APIs.

Hands-on experience will help you answer many scenario-based questions much more confidently.

    1. Understand the platform, not just the APIs
      • Roles, permissions, and divisions
      • Contact center administration concepts
      • Architect basics
      • Analytics and reporting fundamentals

The Developer certification covers much more than pure API knowledge.

    Topics I Would Prioritize

    • OAuth 2.0 Authentication (Client Credentials Grant, Authorization Code Grant, scopes, tokens)
    • Users API, Conversations API, Notifications API, and Analytics API
    • Roles, Permissions, and Divisions
    • Architect and Scripting Fundamentals
    • API utilization and best practices

    Additional Advice

One tip that I don't see mentioned very often: if you're not yet very strong with the APIs, don't ignore the Administrator and Implementation topics.

The Developer exam includes a significant amount of platform and configuration knowledge. A strong understanding of Genesys Cloud administration, roles and permissions, Architect, contact center functionality, divisions, and implementation concepts can help offset weaker areas and increase your overall score. In other words, don't focus only on APIs. A balanced understanding of both development and platform administration gives you a much better chance of passing the exam.

Good luck with your certification journey! My final recommendation would be to spend time on OAuth, Conversations API, Analytics API, Notifications API, and platform administration concepts, as these areas provide a strong foundation for many of the exam objectives.

This additional point helped me personally when I first got my developer certificate because I found the exam to be broader than many candidates initially expect. It is a Developer certification, but understanding how Genesys Cloud is configured and administered can make a real difference in your final score.

    Thanks,

Understanding How Genesys Certification Exam Questions Are Designed

Many candidates wonder what to expect when taking a Genesys certification exam. In my experience, most exam questions can be grouped into three categories:

    1. Basic Questions

These questions test fundamental Genesys concepts and day-to-day knowledge.

If you're an experienced Genesys developer but have never taken a certification exam or specifically prepared for one, you can probably answer close to half of the exam questions correctly based on your practical experience alone. Most of these are the basic questions.

    2. In-Depth Questions

These questions require a deeper understanding of the concepts covered in the official study materials.

After reading the eBook thoroughly, ideally multiple times, you'll find that many of the in-depth questions become much easier to answer. The combination of hands-on experience and a solid understanding of the documentation significantly improves your chances of success.

    3. Tricky Questions

These questions are designed to challenge your understanding and attention to detail.

The good news is that tricky questions usually make up only a small percentage of the exam, so don't let them discourage you.

    A Few Tips for Success

    • Don't underestimate the basic questions. Although they seem easy, many candidates lose points due to simple mistakes or reading too quickly.
    • Always review your answers before submitting the exam.
    • For some in-depth and tricky questions, you may need to make an educated guess. That's normal.
    • If you've answered most of the basic questions correctly and have a reasonable success rate on the in-depth questions, you still have a strong chance of passing.

    Final Thoughts

My recommendation is simple: focus on mastering the basics first, then read the eBook several times to strengthen your understanding of the more detailed topics. Don't worry too much about the few tricky questions. A strong foundation, careful review of your answers, and solid preparation will give you an excellent chance of earning your Genesys certification.

    Hi Beatriz!

My main recommendation is to combine the Genesys Beyond training with hands-on practice. Reading the material is important, but using the API Explorer, testing requests, and understanding the responses makes a big difference.

    I would focus especially on:

    • OAuth and the different authorization types
    • Platform API concepts, endpoints, HTTP methods, and status codes
    • Pagination, rate limits, and error handling
    • API Explorer and Genesys Cloud SDKs
    • Notifications and WebSocket connections
    • Data Actions and integrations
    • Genesys Cloud regions and API environments

Also, try to understand why and when each feature is used instead of only memorizing definitions. The exam may present scenarios, so practical understanding helps a lot.

I also recommend reviewing the official exam guide, taking notes on topics you find more difficult, and doing some tests in a Genesys Cloud environment whenever possible.

    Good luck with your certification!

    Hi RICARDO,

It's not a link, you can register for a free practice exams through the same portal where you schedule your Genesys Certification exam. It's worth taking to get a better understanding of the exam experience and the types of questions you may encounter.
    Thanks,

I can definitely recommend these practice exams! They give you a good general idea of what you are preparing for on the test, and it can also help you get a feel for the "tricky" questions mentioned above.
