    Hello,

    I'm currently in the initial configuration and roll-out phase of PureCloud. I'm configuring our phone infrastructure (we plan on only using softphones). Will I need to spin up a virtual edge in order to get calling functional? We have a small environment. No more than 10 users, but I can't seem to associate my softphone with my computer and it seems to be because of the lack of Edges in my environment. 

    Because I would prefer to keep all of our PureCloud infrastructure in the cloud, it would be ideal to not have to use an edge. We don't need the functionality that the edge provides. 

    Do I need the Edge installed?

    Yes, a PureCloud Edge is required in order to have any telephony capability in PureCloud.
    About Telephony - PureCloud Resource Center

    If you wish, you can look into PureCloud Voice for your telco provider, and your edge would be in the cloud.
    About PureCloud Voice - PureCloud Resource Center

    Otherwise, you might consider an Edge Micro for your site.

    Thats good to know, we are going to be using PureCloud Voice for our Telco Provider so it looks like we don't need to build an edge server.

    Are there any particular reason why you will be using softphones and not WebRTC?

    Hello, 

    After reviewing the different options, we will be going with WebRTC. Do I need an edge server for this? I'm planning on using PureCloud Voice, just waiting on the agreement to append so we can start deploying this.

    PureCloud Voice will include an Edge in the cloud. You will not need to purchase or lease an Edge for on-premises.
