Hi Dianne,
I recently went through the exact same process and encountered a critical limitation that makes this approach unviable for our needs.
Like you, I ran the GDPR request and dug through the massive zip file. I actually managed to locate the chat data inside a file named REALTIME!messages. However, here is the catch: it only contains the messages sent by the user. The export does not show the destination (who the message was sent to), nor does it include any of the messages received by that user during the conversation.
From a functional and compliance perspective, this renders the data incomplete. When we need these logs for auditing purposes (which is a fundamental requirement in most enterprise environments) a one-sided conversation without context or recipient information is virtually useless. Relying on a GDPR data-subject tool to patch an audit use case clearly exposes a gap in the platform's native compliance capabilities.
While researching this further, I found an active request in the Genesys Product Ideas Lab titled Collaborate Chat Export. Recently (Feb 10), an Admin updated the status asking for details on how we envision this working. I highly encourage everyone in this thread to go there, upvote the idea, and share your use cases so we can get a proper audit tool on the roadmap.
Thanks,

Subject: Export Collaborate Chat Logs
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to export or access an agent's collaborate chat history. I already opened a ticket with Genesys Support and they directed me to this article, so I followed the steps and submitted a GDPR request. After a few days, it returned a large zip file and after browsing through the folder, I couldn't find any collaborate chat files but it gave me a bunch of other items.
Did I do something wrong? Or do I have to dig through the files to find the chat log?
Does anyone know a better way to retrieve agent's collaborate chat messages? I used Collaborate Chat APIs as well but it cannot filter with a user ID and it's really tedious to do it manually.
Thank you!
