  • 1.  MFA and the Custom SMTP Server integration

    Hi All,

I have a strong belief that MFA is NOT compatible with "Custom SMTP Server"  integration,  but I am in a position where I must have a definitive answer.   I have searched the various GCcx resources, and can not find anything on this point.

Does anyone have a definite answer and/or a link to documentation of this?

Two ENTIRELY different technologies. SSO and MFA are for authentication and SMTP is a transport.  Now, with SMTP, you can use TLS or Oauth for authentication, but with services it would be difficult to use SSO/MFA.  There are other authentication methods for web services that we can take advantage of programmatically.

    Hi Robert,

Please bear with me.  My SMTP knowledge is limited.

I am in the process of configuring Email in GCcx,  Using the Custom SMTP Server integration to have emails from GCcx show from the client's email domain. For their office365.com email service, they have a company wide policy that Outlook require MFA.   If this integration does not support MFA,  then they will need to create an exception policy for the email accounts that will be managed by GCcx.   They are looking for documentation stating that MFA is not supported, for their Security & compliance team, to approve the policy exception.

I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

    Thank You in Advance.

That is just not possible.  This is a web service, not a person.  They cannot expect an unmanned service to authenticate through a human-driven mechanism like MFA or SSO.  Web services use Oauth, TLS, Tokens, and other protocols that can be exchanged programmatically, not manually.  It would be like asking my dog to use a paw print when I tell him to "Sit".  He does it because he know my voice and understand he will get a pat on the head when he does.

    Good day Pete,
From my testing with Office 365 and Custom SMTP Server using OAuth 2. MFA is not supported.
You would need one 365 account to do the SMTP integration Authentication, (Disable MFA for this user), and have this account added to each production mailbox that will be used on GC as a Send As Delegate.
I used the info from here: https://community.genesys.com/discussion/smtp-oauth20-set-up

You can find very basic steps to achieve Customer From via Custom 365 SMTP Server attached.
    Hope this helps.

Can you explain the use-case a bit more?

Are you looking at agents being able to respond to customer emails, then ensure the customer's replies get back to the same agent? Or are you looking at agents to use GCX as an Outlook-replacement for their emails?
