  • 1.  Opinions on training for the Genesys Cloud Professional Certification

    Posted 07-10-2026 15:33

    Hi everyone,

I'm preparing for the Genesys Cloud: Professional Certification and would appreciate hearing from people who have already passed the exam.

So far, I have completed the following training using the self-study option:

    • Implementation
    • Contact Center Administration
    • Reporting and Analytics

    For those who have passed:

    1. Did you find the instructor-led versions of these courses significantly more valuable than self-study?
    2. Did you attend the Certification Preparation for the Professional Certification Exam workshop, and if so, did it help a lot?
    3. If you could do it again, what would you focus on most before taking the exam?
    4. How useful was the practice exam in comparison to the actual certification exam?

The next certification preparation workshop that works with my schedule is over two months away, so I'm trying to decide whether it's worth waiting or whether I should take the exam while it's fresh in my memory.

Any advice, study tips, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Hi Jean,

I completed the certification using the self-study path only and found it sufficient to pass the exam. My approach was to work through all the learning modules, take plenty of notes, and then spend time reviewing the practice questions and understanding why each answer was correct rather than just memorising them.

I didn't attend the Certification Preparation workshop, so I can't comment on its value. Personally, if the content is still fresh in your mind, I'd be inclined to take the exam rather than wait another two months.

I found the practice exam helpful for identifying areas that needed more revision, but I also made sure I had a solid understanding of the concepts covered in the learning modules, as the actual exam tests your understanding of how the platform works rather than simple recall.

Best of luck with the exam!

    Hi Jean,

I had a similar experience. I also prepared using only the self-study learning paths and didn't attend the instructor-led courses or the certification preparation workshop.

My recommendation is to complete the self-study path and then practice using the Practice Exam available in Webassessor. You can access it here:
    https://www.webassessor.com/#/tw-candidate/twExamRegistration

After logging in, just look for "Genesys Cloud: Certified Professional - Practice Exam" (it's free), as shown below.

Based on my experience, if you work with Genesys Cloud on a daily basis and are familiar with the interface, the self-study path plus the practice exam should be enough to prepare for the certification. The instructor-led training is still valuable, especially if you don't use Genesys regularly or are new to the platform, but I don't think it's a requirement to pass the exam.

    Good luck!

    Hi Jean,

I passed the GCP certification and, looking back, my recommendation would be not to wait two months for the preparation workshop if you have already completed the three core courses and the content is still fresh in your mind.

    Regarding your questions:

    1. Self-study vs Instructor-led

I found the self-study courses sufficient for understanding the exam objectives. The instructor-led sessions can provide additional context, real-world examples, and opportunities to ask questions, but I would not consider them a requirement for passing the exam. If you already have hands-on experience with Genesys Cloud, the value gap is even smaller.

    2. Certification Preparation Workshop

The workshop can be helpful because it reinforces key concepts and identifies areas where you may have knowledge gaps. However, it should be viewed as a confidence booster and review session rather than a substitute for learning the material.

    3. What I'd focus on before the exam

    • Review the exam Study Guide carefully and use it as a checklist.
    • Revisit concepts from all three courses, especially where they overlap.
    • Focus on understanding why a feature is used, not just where it is configured.
    • Spend time in a Genesys Cloud environment if possible. Hands-on experience with users, queues, routing, Architect, reporting, permissions, and administration settings helps tremendously.
    • Review Resource Center articles for topics listed in the Study Guide.

    4. Practice Exam

I found the practice exam useful for understanding the style and structure of the questions. However, I wouldn't rely on it alone as a measure of readiness. Treat it as a diagnostic tool to identify weaker areas that need additional study.

One additional observation: many candidates focus heavily on memorization. In my experience, the GCP exam rewards a solid understanding of how the different Genesys Cloud components work together across implementation, administration, and reporting scenarios. If you can explain the purpose of a feature and when it should be used, you're usually on the right track.

Since you've already completed Implementation, Contact Center Administration, and Reporting & Analytics, I'd suggest taking the practice exam, addressing any weak areas, and then scheduling the certification while the material is still fresh rather than waiting several months.

Good luck with the exam! Let us know how it goes.

    Good afternoon Jean:

I would go ahead and take the exam while it's fresh in your mind. I would not wait 2 months for the workshop; I don't believe that it provides that much as far as prep goes.

Tip-wise, if you are taking your exam remotely, go ahead and set up your test area before logging in, eat something, use the restroom, and avoid drinking anything within the 20-30 mins before the test. If you have the ability to connect your device via LAN that will help to avoid any connection issues that may come up and throw your rhythm off when the exam freezes.

My next tip: if you can't answer a question in 10-15 seconds, flag it and move on; a question down the road may answer it. This will help keep you from getting brain fog as you try to work through it and allows you to get the known fruits quicker so you're not stressing about time left over.

My final tip: This works for me and may not work for you, but I never review any question that was not flagged. More often than not, I found that if I revisit a question, I'm more likely to second-guess my answer and choose a wrong answer.

    1) I did both the Self-study and ILT courses. I did the Self-Study with labs, then took the ILT. After the ILT, I did a speed run through the Self-Study courses again, just to reinforce the material. I found this works best for me when it comes to exam prep and touching up on new or refreshed material.

    2) For the Certification workshop, I attended that session back when I did that; it was required to get the voucher for the practice test. I can't remember it being particularly helpful, but a few things were touched on by the instructor that closed some gaps I was overthinking.

    3) I followed the same process as in 1 for every one of the cert exams I have taken so far; it seems to work for me and really helps me drill the concepts into my mind.

    4) While I have taken every practice exam prior to the actual exam, I would say it's about 50/50 in terms of it being useful. I tend to take them right before I take the exam to kind of get my brain a jump-start into exam mode.

    Hi Kyle,

I agree with the comments above. In my experience, the Genesys Cloud Professional Certification exam itself is not particularly difficult to pass. However, it is one of the most valuable certifications to invest time in because it provides the foundational knowledge that applies across the entire Genesys Cloud platform.

I would strongly recommend spending the time to truly master the Administration and Implementation concepts covered in this certification rather than focusing only on passing the exam. Many of the Specialist certifications include approximately 20% Administration and Implementation content, so a solid understanding of these areas will help you in multiple certification paths.

For those pursuing the Developer Certification, this is even more important. A significant portion of the exam focuses on Genesys Cloud platform knowledge, administration, and implementation concepts. Having a strong foundation in the Professional Certification topics can make a substantial difference and may help offset weaker performance in some of the more API-focused sections.

In short, don't view the Professional Certification as just an entry-level exam. Think of it as the foundation for almost every other Genesys Cloud certification. The time you invest in mastering the material will continue to pay off as you move on to Specialist and Developer certifications.

I 100% agree. When I took the developer exam, I was surprised by the underwhelming number of API questions, and the solid understanding of Admin and Implementation is a good percentage on all exams I have taken so far. Set yourself up for success and truly try to understand the material, and not just try to get a cert to get a cert.

    Hi Jean, how are you?

I plan to pursue my certifications using only the self-study courses. Several people at my company took that approach and told me it was enough to pass the exams.

I'll let you know how it goes once I've taken mine. And when you complete yours, I'd encourage you to share your experience and insights with the community as well. It will be very valuable for those who are just getting started on their certification journey.

Good luck with your studies, and thanks for being part of the discussion! 😊

  • 10.  RE: Opinions on training for the Genesys Cloud Professional Certification

    Posted yesterday

    Hi Jean,

I recently completed the Genesys Cloud Professional Certification for the first time, just 4 days ago, so I thought I'd share my experience.

I prepared using the self-study courses and spent around 15 days preparing for the exam. Personally, I found the self-study material sufficient to build a good understanding and achieve a good score. I didn't feel that instructor-led training was absolutely necessary for my preparation.

What helped me the most was practice questions. I created multiple quizzes using Gemini, covering different topics from the certification, and tried to solve at least 30 questions per topic. This helped me identify gaps in my knowledge and get comfortable with different types of questions.

    My suggestions would be:

    • Complete the self-study courses thoroughly.

    • Focus on understanding the concepts rather than memorizing answers.

    • Practice as many scenario-based questions as possible.

    • Use practice exams/quizzes to identify your weak areas.

    • Review the topics where you consistently make mistakes before taking the exam.

I haven't attended the Certification Preparation workshop, so I can't comment on how much additional value it provides. But based on my experience, if the course content is still fresh in your mind and you have enough time for focused practice, I would personally not wait two months just for the workshop.

Good luck with your preparation! 🚀
