Genesys Cloud - Main

Is anyone still using overhead paging in an office or warehaouse environment ? We are migrating from an old Nortel PBX environment to Genesys CX/Communicate and ther is still the need to access the Bogen overhead paging system . Can a SIPadapter such as a Algo 8301 be used with Genesys CX ( BYOC ) ? Can this be setup as a generic SIP device and register back to the cloud ?

Not a lot of choices here.  Either you register the device to a local SBC and then have it connect to a BYOC Cloud trunk or use 1-to-1 NAT on your router with port mapping to the IP of the paging unit and a BYOC Cloud trunk.  Hopefully, we will get some unmanaged phones at some point, especially with the Edges no longer being sold.

This is not an uncommon problem, especially with the lack of Edges.  I feel the only options are the following:

1. FXS Gateway with 1:! NAT through a router.  Will not require an SBC but is doable in a pinch.  This would be tied to a BYOC trunk.
2. SBC to a BYOC Trunk.  This would allow door phones, and other SIP devices to be registered to the SBC and then use trunking to Genesys Cloud.
3. Crazy Idea:  Have a Polycom phone registered to the cloud as a managed phone and on then forward that phone to the device IP for inbound calls and for outbound, set the phone to auto-dial out to Genesys Cloud and possibly forward out to ring a group of users or queue.  

Sorry, but nothing really great here.  I would hope that Genesys finds some way to allow FSX gateways to register directly to the Genesys Cloud in the near future.

I am surprised to hear an Edge, or the HP replacement, needs to be on-prem to support these. I was under the impression something like an Algo 8186 registers as if it were a phone and appear as an extension on the phone system. Why would a horn need 1 to 1 NAT when a phone doesn't?

Hypothetically it could, but Genesys Cloud Voice and/or BYOC Cloud doesn't support any phone that is unmanaged. So with that said, you would need BYOC Premise edges to accomplish this.

I just found out that Genesys is actually working on the ability to support registration of unmanaged devices like fxs and other sip phones. I would expect this to be out later in this year if not early next year.  Keep watch on the quarterly updates to see when this will be out.
