  • 1.  Roles and Permission Updates

    The question is around Roles and Permissions and the updating of the Roles/Permissions when Genesys pushes out updates. According to the Resource Center article, https://help.mypurecloud.com/articles/about-roles-permissions/ (Snip below), updates are periodically pushed out, however, it seems like even if the role has not been modified, the end user (admin) would need to monitor this, on each role, to see if there have been updates, and then choose to restore/or manually add any new permissions for the role to receive any new updates. Is that accurate? From the Genesys support case I opened up today,  that is correct, and potentially, the end user would need to do this weekly to ensure their roles all have the most recent updated permissions.

     

    We opened up a client that had not had any modifications to their default roles and there were MANY new permission that they are potentially missing because they/we have not restored the role to get the new updates.

    Just looking for a bit of clarification on this. If we/client are to have the most recent permission updates it seems very strange that we would need to go check this weekly.

    How to obtain new permissions for default roles

    Genesys Cloud adds the latest new permissions to default roles via periodic updates. You can add new permissions manually without altering any modifications you made to the role, or you can restore the role to the default state and receive the new permissions automatically.

    However, when you restore a default role, the system does not retain any permissions you added, and adds back permissions you deleted. To return a role to the default state with its original and updated permissions, select Edit Role and click Restore Default Role.

    You got it. Watch the Release Notes to see if they indicate Role changes, and check the affected roles mentioned for that week. Then, periodically (probably monthly) check all the default/standard roles to see if the update button is un-grayed.

    I had a long discussion with Dev when the functionality was decided upon a few years ago. It is what you describe, for various compatibility reasons that avoid the chance of breaking a customer org.

    Another note...older orgs have the roles Engage User and Engage Supervisor, middle-old have PureCloud User and PureCloud Supervisor, and new orgs have Supervisor and User. All the same role, but they don't dare update the names because customers may have customizations that use the names their org came with.
