Static filtering for AI Knowledge now availableHi everyone,
We're excited to announce the rollout of Metadata Filtering for AI Knowledge, a new capability that gives administrators greater control over which content is available to AI-powered experiences.
With this release, administrators can use metadata labels to define exactly which documents should be included in a knowledge configuration before AI processing takes place.
SharePoint Managed Metadata support
One of the key enhancements in this release is support for SharePoint Managed Metadata (Term Store).
Managed Metadata fields from SharePoint are now ingested together with the content, allowing administrators to filter documents based on metadata such as:
- Topic
- Language
- Audience
- Department
- Brand
- Any other Managed Metadata terms configured in SharePoint
This makes it possible to create more targeted knowledge configurations and ensure that AI responses are generated only from the most relevant content.
File Connector metadata support
Metadata labels provided through the File Connector are also ingested and can be used for filtering within knowledge configurations.
Dynamic tag selection
When configuring a knowledge source, administrators will now see only the labels that are available for the selected sources. This helps prevent invalid configurations and simplifies the setup experience.
Flexible filtering logic
Knowledge configurations now support combining labels using intuitive filtering logic, including:
- All of the following labels (AND)
- Any of the following labels (OR)
- None of the following labels (NOT)
For example:
- Audience = Internal
- Language = French
- Department = Sales
- Topic = Engine
AND
This enables precise control over the content scope available to AI.
Search results aligned with knowledge filters
The configured filters are now consistently applied across the AI knowledge experience, ensuring that only content matching the configured criteria is considered during retrieval.
These enhancements help organizations create more focused, compliant, and contextually relevant AI knowledge experiences while leveraging existing metadata investments in SharePoint and File Connector integrations.
As always, we welcome your feedback and questions in the comments below.
Thank you,
Zsolt
