  • 1.  "This product requires support for SHA-256 certificates." when provisioning non-WebRTC softphone

When we provision a PureCloud Softphone (non-WebRTC) on customer PCs, we always encounter this error message below. Following the instructions at my.inin.com , we double check if KBs are installed. Even though those required KBs are installed on customer PCs, we are still getting the error. However, the error will not show up on the 2nd try and the phone can be provisioned. Any workaround to eliminate this error message? Since customer operates with free seats, they need to provision every morning so that we would like to avoid extra steps to provision.

FYI. Customer runs Windows 7 with the latest patches.

    Naotane:

What you are describing is a known issue that is documented in the Resource Center:

PureCloud Softphone does not update successfully on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 systems

    https://help.mypurecloud.com/articles/purecloud-softphone-not-update-successfully-windows-7-windows-2008-r2-systems/

The article states: "The PureCloud Softphone install uses a driver that requires Microsoft SHA-256 certificates, which Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 do not support." And, that the solution is to install the SHA-256 certificates from the Microsoft KB.

Normally, you would do this only once when you first install and provision the PureCloud Softphone.

Provisioning the phone every day is not a normal situation, can you go into more detail as to why you are doing this? Also, not exactly sure what you mean by "free seats." Can you explain in more detail?

    Naotane:

I did some follow up investigation with a couple of developers on the provisioning every day aspect and none of them thought that you would need to re-provision the phones every day when using the free seating feature toggle.

    More specifically:

"The free seating toggle only changes the bootstrap behavior of the client so that it doesn't look for the last associated station or preferred station. If it's on, it just picks up any currently associated station or nothing."

So, it sounds like you should be able to use the free seating feature toggle without having to provision the phones every day.

Please let us know how things work.

    Thanks
