  • 1.  thoughts on a Certification test changing all expiration dates?

    Posted 21 days ago

Wondering if there has been any thoughts on changing the Certification tests to change all of your current certifications to the new date?  Similar to what CompTIA does.  So if I currently hold 4 Genesys Certifications and pass an exam, that all 5(4 old and the new one) of them would be current for two years? Avoids having to go back and retake tests and encourages taking new ones maybe..

    thanks, Robert

I understand your point. We have a continuous cycle of renewal. When you reach all certifications, they could change this.

But in another way, two years is a long time, and many changes will probably happen on the platform.

But I agree, in the end, this cycle is sometimes complicated to administrate.

It's amazing that 2 years is but a blink of an eye in most teams, time goes by so fast!  In the industry, 2 years is a millennia however lol.  We have people passing 3 exams in a row, then 2 years is suddenly upon them and they have to resit them all again.

Ideally we'd have refresher exams I think, or longer resit times.

I understand the idea of simplifying certification renewals, especially for people who hold multiple certifications. Managing different expiration dates can be difficult, and a more streamlined renewal process would definitely be helpful.

However, I also think it is important to remember that a technical certification is different from a broad general exam.

In my view, a certification should validate that someone has solid knowledge in a specific product area, feature set, or professional domain.

Genesys Cloud has very different areas, such as WFM, Architect, Quality Management, Digital Bots, Knowledge, integrations, reporting, supervisor and administrator. Because of that, I am not sure one broad exam covering many different areas would be the best way to validate real expertise.

It could become too extensive, and it may require professionals to be tested in topics that are not directly related to their role or career path.

For me, the value of a certification is that it gives confidence that the person understands that specific area, not just that they have a general overview of many topics.

Maybe the best approach would be to simplify expiration management, while still keeping certifications connected to their specific domains or related tracks.

Since Genesys does not have information about this policy, as it does not apply to other solution services, I confirm that it would be legal to open an idea with Genesys.

I was thinking something more like CompTIA exams.  If i hold Security, Network and A+ and retake the Security exam, it moves the dates of the other two exams further out from expiring also.

I think Genesys should implement something more along the lines of if you have passed the GCP 3 times, then that no longer expires, or at least bumps up to 5 years before expiration.

My problem with a policy of auto updating all certificates if you pass one is that you would then have people just take the easier exams to automatically renew the harder ones. The constant challenge of renewing all of the certs is painful, but it does keep you up to date with any changes that are going on in that specific area, and it makes you vigilant.

Good point.  I think CompTIA you have to retake the "hardest" exam and that moves the dates for any they consider easier.. so if you took say the A+ exam it would only renew that one.. but Security would renew A+ and Network as that is how they tier them

I agree and get my vote that updating the process so that passing a type of renewal Genesys certification that would also renew all existing certifications for another cycle-similar to CompTIA-would be beneficial and less burdensome for certified professionals to maintain. I also like the idea of passing it 3 times will extend the renewal period to 5 years and could further support ongoing engagement and professional development.  I recommend considering these updates to streamline the renewal process and encourage continued learning.
